Naps not happening since moving to big boybed
« on: September 25, 2011, 12:18:35 pm »
Can anyone help? Our lite boy was doing really well with his naps and sleep when in his cot his day was:
7.00 -7.30 wake
1.30-2.00 put down for nap
3.30 - wake from nap
8.00 - bed and sleep

Now we are having no naps as just plays throughout his nap time as he has moved into big boy bed
5.30-6.00 wake
No nap
7.00 - bed and sleep
He wakes at least once during the night and gets out of bed so we have to resettle him never woke up for resettling before moving him

Any advice please help we work shifts and need a good routine

how old is he? Sounds like he is getting OT as a result of moving to the BBB. Do you have a gro-clock?

He is 2 years 3 months not sure what it is I try for ages to get him to go to sleep it's been 40 minutes now and still no joy. If we bought a gro clock he would just play with it as wouldn't understand think he maybe getting over tired which is why we are getting night wakings

At his age he would def understand the concept of the gro-clock. We used one with my son at 22 months and he got it  straight away although it took a little while for him to accept it ;) There is a lock function so even if he did play with it it would still work.
It does sound like OT setting in.
If he is having no nap then he needs to go to bed much earlier so ideally no more than 11.5 hours after waking. I appreciate that that is tricky. Can you AP a nap?
How are you settling him atm? I must say that transitions like this can be rough and IMO a firm approach is best i.e. a consistent bedtime routine and always returning him to his room straight away. Have you got a stair gate?
