Pls help..4.5 mo old waking all night..
« on: October 02, 2011, 18:18:51 pm »
Pls bear with my long post..am completely losing it..:(
So its early morning here and I havent slept close to an hour this night..I had posted here before abt my 4.5 month old..she used to be grt sleeper until 4 months old and then this all started..I thought of trying cio,but she was getting so my hyper and adamant that I knda skipped it and bought no cry pantley book, which isnt working either because, she cant be put down in crib awake..as soon as she hits the crib, she either starts crying loud or works herself up out of her sleep in complete wakeful stage..so i was rocking n nursing her to seep sleep and putting her in crib carefully n she used to sleep for atleast 2-3 hrs at a strtech at night, wake up feed and go back to sleep after lil fussing..I started her on solids abt a week back thinking that will help and shes on grt solid food twice a day(at night before hitting bed too). These days she takes a good 2 hr nap in the morning and proly couple of other cat naps through day(after much much effort of rocking n feeding) ,so shes getting her required naps during the day..then how can she be OT again to wake pu during night..this night she was aking up every 1-1.5 hrs and by 5 am she was cmpletely awake not wanting to sleep..This is her log for last 2 days(almost similar)
 Wu - 5 30 am -- nursed n rocked to sleep by 6 30 am -
Wu at 8 45 am
nursed rocked and nap at 10 15 am
WU at 12 20 pm
fed solids,bm n nap at 2 pm
WU at 2 40 pm
nap at 4 00 ( woke up every 30 mins, but rocked back to sleep pretty soon ) WU at 5 30
fed solids and bm n night time routine n rocked to sleep at 7 20
Wu at 8 00 pm (rocked to sleep)
WU at 9 pm
WU at 10 pm
WU at 11 30 pm
WU at 12 45 pm( took from crib n put on my side at bed..waking up n feeding on n off till 5)
Wide awake at 5 am
now  my DH rocking her to sleep at 7 15 am after a feed
This is last ngiht's case..the night before was not this worse..
I am completely terrible now and losing it..no clue what to do and have forgot to enjoy everything i have in hand cos i am so desperate n sleep deprived.my all day is spend in calculation of how much her WT is n looking for her cues n trying hard to put her to n keep her nap etc etc..but still it seems to be of no use..what am i dealing with her..
Pls advise me..
Thanks for looking at this..

Hi, My LO is the same age as yours and is going through the same thing, there seem to be heaps on here with similar stories. Apparently their sleep patterns change around this time. I've pasted in a section from a NZ website thesleepstore.co.nz which gives some information:
When does self settling become an issue?
Once babies are over 5 months, their sleep cycles change considerably. Rather than drift in and out of light sleep throughout the night, babies now wake fully between sleep cycles. So babies ALL wake 4-6 times or more each night once they are over five months.
So babies over 5 months don't actually 'sleep through'. But if they can self settle, they know how to go back to sleep 4-6 times during the night without your help.
But if your baby can't fall asleep without your help at bedtime, he is likely to need your help to go back to sleep each time he wakes in the night. Generally babies need the same settling technique during the night that they rely on at bedtime to get to sleep. So if you feed your baby to sleep at bedtime, it will seem that nothing apart from feeding to sleep will settle them in the night.
Babies who continue being helped to sleep at bedtime and through the night develop a reliance, or habit, on such help. In the following months their night waking often gets worse rather than better as they get older.
All babies, children and adults stir and wake many times in the night. But you can teach your baby that he can go back to sleep without needing your help, and this is when your baby will 'sleep through the night'.
You will be surprised at how quickly your baby will learn they can resettle themself in the night, once you decide on a plan and use it consistently.

My LO was waking hourly to 2 hourly and so we tried the gentle weaning approach as I think he was addicted to the bouncing of his hammock. It's been a week and a half and the last two night he's slept 7-7 with a wake up at 10:30 (around DF time anyway) and another at 4. Last night he woke 30 mins after he feel asleep at 4, and self settled back to sleep! First time he's done that from crying!
I've described in detail what we have been doing in this thread here: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=217926.0 I think the biggest help for him is the comforter.

I hope that helps. Good Luck!

Thanks Roi..after all the craziness last noght,it has affected her todays nap as well..she has been sleeping 30 min naps for twice now..she wpke up crying n dh rocked her back to sleep..am planning to start smtng..cio or so tonight..gentle weaning is not doing her any good..she cries bloody murder or just stays awake in crib for a while n then starts crying..i have been introducing comforter but she doesnt seem to attach to either..I know I sound so hopeless but thats my current situatiob..cant find any ray of hope..:(((
