help with 10 month old naps
« on: October 06, 2011, 16:47:12 pm »
Not too sure what to do....

DS has been fighting his afternoon nap and bedtime the past week and I am wondering whre we need to adjust his schedule.

Generally up at 0715 ish
E 0800
A: 3.75 hrs
S: around 11
E depends on nap length am nap is generally the best anywhere from 1 hr 45 to 2 hrs
A: 4 hrs
S: this is where I think we are having problems when he finally goes down for a nap I think I am letting him sleep to long (50 min)
E
A: my goal is 8-830 BT

However lately his BT is getting later and later and he is getting more difficult to get to sleep making me wonder if he is UT and eventually ends up OT after all of the fighting to go to bed.  I would really like to get back to a 13hr day (this was what he was doing for months and STTN for 11-12 hrs).

Just not sure what to do, any insight would be great.  Oh and we have been getting NWs as well.

Today I tried extending his morning A to 4 hrs (he just barely made it) he went down at 1050 (was up just before 7) and it is 1245 and he is still sleeping.  So should I go for 4 hr A or longer with a 20 min CN?

Sorry so many questions.....

Read this first....http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=95670.0

It's likely the start of the 2-1 transition but don't worry, it should be a while before he actually goes to one nap.  Will just need some adjusting in the meantime!

I wouldn't necessarily cut his morning A time for now if he goes down ok for the nap but I'd make it shorter.  The reason he's refusing his second nap is because he's not tired enough.  If you cut the morning nap then he'll be tired enough for an afternoon nap.  Don't be too drastic though, cut it gradually and see how he gets on.  You might need to play around with nap lengths/times until you find what works.

I am doing it the other way around from what Karen suggested.  Long AM short PM, DD has always loved her AM nap and waking her from it makes for a very crabby baby until the PM nap which is then restless at best.

We are up around 615am these days, 4 hrs 15 first A time, 2 hr nap, 4 hrs 20 second A time, CN, BT 8pm.  Some days are great, others not so much... just the nature of the 2-1 ;)
