7wo - hungry or not
« on: October 11, 2011, 19:40:10 pm »
Hi,

My 7week old DD has generally been a great night sleeper - She's had bedtime around 8pm and gets up for the day between 7and 8.30am and for the first 5 weeks of her life she'd only wake once during the night!! anywhere between (My two DS used to wake 2-3 times until they were at least 4mo - she was 10lb12 born so perhaps she had extra calories to go on).

Anyway, when she hit 5 weeks her wakeup/feed times have been:
3.00am
5.00am
3.00am
3.30am
1.30am and  6am
1.00am and  5am
1.30am and  4.30am
2.30am and  6am
1.30am and  5.30am
2.30am
3.30am
1.00am and  5.30am
3.30am
4.00am
5.00am   (she'd had her vaccinations that day)
1.00am and  5.00am (last night)

Really random!! I figured the start of the 2 night feeds was around 6 weeks so presumably a growth spurt. No problem.

But since then she's been stretching out again (1st feed only - after that she seems to only go 4hrs before waking again).

But as you can see last night she woke at 1am - after going until 4 or 5am the previous night - I started by pacing up and down in the dark with her on my shoulder for a few minutes - first she was bobbing her head against my shoulder but then relaxed and lay against it - but once back in her cot she just got worked up again despite my p/sh for a few mins - I was tired and I figured she's still so young, perhaps she was genuinely hungry so I fed her...

The 5am feed she had the first good guzzle (maybe 2/3rds of a feed), i changed her nappy, and then she didn't want any more!! Cheeky girl...

WHat do you think? should I have persevered with p/sh at 1am? My poor milk supply doesn't know what to do!
thanks
Anna

Personally I would feed at this young age especially if you have poor milk supply, the NF will boost your supply. Feeds at this age are pretty erratic at night night but it seems to me like your LO is doing awesome!  :)

Agree with Emma.  If its been 3-4 hours since last feed (probably more like 3 at this age) i would assume hunger and feed.  You are getting great stretches already and it will even out again xx
