Eating Habits
« on: October 23, 2011, 11:36:44 am »
Hi girls,

DS is now almost 25 months old, we're eating pretty well, however I have a major issue with how he eats, 'cause most of the time I feed him. He does feed himself at daycare, and at home he handles snacks himself, but when it's meal time he usually refuses to self feed or would take bizillion hrs to finish a meal!

The other thing is that we don't really have family meal times, we all eat at different times, so I guess that's not creating a very positive meal time habit for ds  :-[ plus he's still eating in his high chair, which I think he's getting to old for.

Any thoughts?

What happens if you give him food at meal times? He just refuses to eat it?? I have found that if I ignore Olly he will eventually get on with it. Guess you have tried finger foods?

Olly takes a good 40 mins to eat a meal if that helps!

40 mins :(...I guess that's part of where the problem is, I usually need him to be done faster  ::)

He's okay with finger foods, but needs to be constantly reminded that he's supposed to be eating, as eating with a spoon, he can do it, but that would take up to 24 hrs not 40 mins!

I talked to his preschool teacher today and we agreed that we will attempt to start focusing on helping him focus on eating, so like at home I'd sit with him and we'd have two spoons one for him and one for me and we'd take turns feeding him of course, and then I'd increase it to 2 spoons by him and one by me and so on, what do you think?

I multitask so eat as well, do the washing up. Also he's awake at 6am latest and nursery doesn't open till 8.  Sometimes he's quicker.
