Diaper keeps leaking=night wakings!
« on: October 23, 2011, 12:43:38 pm »
I am not sure if this is the right board to post this on, but it is contributing to him waking at night, so I thought I would give this forum a try.
My little guy (almost 6 months) is now doing marvelously on the 4 hour EASY routine. I do give him one DF at 10:30pm and then he usually wakes up for a NF between 2 and 3. Last night he slept until 4am! However...the problem I am facing is that everynight he is waking up with a diaper that has leaked. And it leaks so badly that his sleeper is SOAKED!!! It wakes him up. I do believe that last night that he would have slept maybe the whole night...but for some reason, he is either a) producing too much urine for his diaper to hold at night, b) I am putting on his diaper wrong (but I don't think this is the case since I have also got my husband to do the "before bed" diaper just to make sure") or c) my LO has started sleeping on his side during the night, and the wetness is always down his side. I am wondering if the urine is flowing to the side of his diaper where there is less absorbency. The leaking problem began around the time that he started sleeping on his side.
I am wondering if anybody has any suggestions for me.
We use Pamper Baby Dry and we really like them. I have tried using a size larger diaper for the night...but when I use those, it leaks on his back.
So frustrating and I need to know what I am doing wrong or what I can do to fix this!
Please help!!!

:)

Hi there!

I experienced the same problem with my DS when he was a little over a year old.  He would wake up soaked EVERY night.  So, we had to change him, the sheets, everything....every morning!  I also use Pampers Baby Dry, and LOVE them!  However, we switched to Huggies Nighttime diapers for night.  They are thicker and more absorbent than the Pampers Baby Dry and worked for us!  As my son was a little older than yours when we switched, I do not know what sizes they come in.  But, it's worth checking!  Good luck!  :)

We have found that Huggies are more absorbent. for DS at night. Might want to try them? I know a lot of moms who found Pampers worked better for their girls and Huggies were better for their boys...I love pampers (feel softer to me) but huggies just fit him better!

We are having exactly the same problem so I am going to follow along and see if anyone has any suggestions - we have tried two nappies, bigger nappies, one small nappy and a bigger nappy over the top... Tonight I have wrapped a terry nappy around his waist to see if that can absorb enough to get us to the morning.

One thing that hasn't worked for me but others have said does is changing him either at the df or when he wakes for his feed. I tried both - changing him at 11 didn't help, and when I went to change him at 3am he was already soaked through!

Tried the huggies last night....and another big leak! My LO is still in size 2 diapers so I couldnt get the night time ones. I bought the snug and dry (size 2) and I actually did a diaper change after his dream feed...but when he woke up at 6:30 this morning he was soaked once again. boo. I might have to try doing a diaper change before his night feed at 2:30am. I don't know what else to do at this point. :(

It's inconvenient but I guess there are worse things I could be dealing with....:)

The terry nappy round his waist worked for us last night - it was a little wet on the inside, but it hadn't leaked through and we had to wake him at 7. :D

Yay! Awesome! I am putting 2 diapers on my little guy tonight...I'm not quite sure what I think about it...I put a size 2 (his regular size) with a size 3 over top. Is this ok to do? I made sure that the top one wasnt too tight.
What is a terry "nappy"? I am not familiar with nappy. Is that a towel or washcloth?

I think if you double up, you're can put some holes in the inner diaper (like with a pin) so it can get to the outer one.

Have you tried a wool diaper cover (for cloth diapers) over the disposable?

Ive had this issue from day one with Levi (granted he is younger) I tried all the methods mentioned above and the only one that has worked is a larger sized nappy AND a PUL cover (I use Baby beehinds one) and voila no more wet baby clothes and sheets. One night there I tried it wihtout the cover and yep we had major leakage.

Nappy = diaper!  Terry cloth ones are actually just a piece of material which is basically like a towel.

We also had the same issue with a leaky diaper. DS was in a size 2 but we gave Huggies Overnight size 3 a try and they worked for us! :) I admit the diaper was on super tight around his waist, bc DS was a little small for a size 3, but I found it absorbed better than his Pampers baby dry.
