In a panic here!
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:09:58 am »
OK, so the kids have been ill and thats contributing to all the nonsense but the clocks change at the end of the week and I am in a panic about these EW they are BOTH doing.  :(

Brodie will be fine, he has his gro-clock and he will adjust I'm sure of it. He has been napping every day for the past 5 days due to illness which hasn't been helping.

Dylan is another story. I dont know what to do here. 4.20am EW this morning, night before it was 5 and the night before that too. She has been on one nap for a good few weeks now and I'm caught in between a rock and a hard place. Now she's at the point that an AM nap will cause an EW *but* she's also OT which could also be causing the EW. I have only offered one nap the past 2 days and its sitting at 1 hour 20 when she usually does 2/3 hours.

What should I do here? I cant expect her to last until after 12 until a nap surely (we have nursery run to pick B up at 11.45).

Sorry for being jumbled, I dont even know what I am asking but I cant go back to EW (D is not a chronic EWer) esp if they are going to be in the hour of 3 or 4 am, it'd kill me.  :'( I just dont know what to do with her, she is the type of bub that needs to power through transitions but she's OT'd too, very much so. I need this sorted before the end of the week!

WWYD? Keep going through the OT until it breaks? Or offer 2 naps to get past the OT?

*I* would offer 2 naps for a couple of days, but I think I'm in the minority with this...AM CN, long PM...
So what's your day looking like right now?

It was

 WU - 7ish
 nap - 12ish - 2.30/3
 BT - 6.30/7

The last few days it been

EW 5ish (WI/WO 'til get up)
 Get up - 6.30
Nap - 11.30/12 - 1.30ish
BT - 6.30 (sometimes earlier)

FWIW I have just put her down, she's just pooped. She went straight to sleep practically in my arms so I guess I'll go down the road of trying to mop up the OT. I am usually in the camp of keep going through the OT until you get where you need to be but she's not consistantly EW (yet!). I'll give her a half hour and try again about 1ish for a hopefully long PM nap.  :-\

My two will have car naps Fri and Sat to get them to later bedtimes for the clocks change....even at this age x

In hindsight I should have done a car nap today as she seems to not realise she's even had one of those! Will take one in the AM easy peasy. Such is life.  ;)

In fact I will be offering B a car nap this weekend I think to get him to a later BT, good thinking ladies!  ;D

If the EW becomes chronic I will rethink but for just now I'll do 2 naps and cross the chronic EW bridge if it comes along.  She's just such an angel in the mornings usually and has been doing luscious 12.5 hour nights, knew it wouldn't last!  ::) She has never been an EWer really,  and I have not taken it for granted ever. After having it from B it was a welcome break and doing PD or WI/WO is just so damn hard at that time, much rather be doing in the MOTN and get a couple of hours afterwards kwim.

Exactly the same here with DD2, in fact she woke at 5.15am screaming this morning and given it was so dark I knew i'd be able to treat it as a NW (cue milk and a cuddle :P) Back to sleep til nearly 8 when of course I had to wake her as I'm working ::)

Good luck this avo hun xxx

just like my Emma....even 6am can still be treated as MOTN for her...whereas its still the best time to start the day for her brother! YAWN!

Good luck with the car naps ladies x

Ugh, ugh, ugh....STILL getting EW.  :'(

I did 3 x 2 nap days and yesterday just kept her up until lunchtime and offered one nap. She woke after 1 x sleep cycle which is OT for her but I got her back to sleep and nap length in total was 3 hours. BT 4 hours after WU from nap and she woke at 4.45 this AM, and was not happy.  :( Less than a 10 hour night.

WWYD? It seems I get EW whatever road I take here. Perhaps I should have given the 2 nap days a few more days?

Can I realistically keep her up until after 12 for a one nap day when she was awake so early? God, you think I'd be a pro at this EW nonsense after B!

Perhaps its not routine related at all.  :-\ She has never had EW for this length of time before depsite messng with naps. No teeth coming through atm but cant think what else it could be.  ???

Teeth were always the major culprit for ews with e. I can't remember how old d is, but she's less than 18 months, right? I think I would go back to 2 naps for a while, but offering only 15 minutes or so at 9.30ish, then her lunchtime nap at the normal time - that's what got us through the transition to one nap.

Thanks hon,  :-*

I popped her down at 10 as she was becoming unbrearable and I'm just going to get her now so that'll be a 25 min nap. Will push the PM nap out a bit later if need be. She usually will take the 2 naps if offered.

I'd keep to 1 nap.  2 naps may put you into UT/OT loop.  I find that loop much harder to break than OT loop.  Will she AP back down at the EW?  If it's teeth it's not chronic, just acute EW if you will, she shows no signs of being chronic, so I think you could do AP at an EW and it may pass.

2 naps may work - it never worked for us.

Teeth was a huge factor for us.
The tweaking never stops!

APing not doing it, I'm ready and willing to try but nothing is getting her down. She's not happy. I'd be more than happy if I could AP her back down and start the day afresh with 1 nap. Thing is on one nap I'm pushing her as it is kwim? Previous to this she was already pushed to a 5/5.5 hour A with one nap and a normal WU.

I do think I'm in an OT/UT loop and I am one to power on through for sure, it needs to be done! She is just a mess by 10am, falling to pieces. I got her up after 25 mins this AM and she was falling asleep on me when I picked her up, thats never happened!

I hope to God its not the start of a habit, TBH I hope its teeth. She's usually a nightmare for a good few days before a tooth pops but its always in the MOTN not early morning.

 I HATE EW.  >:( >:( >:( I thought I paid my dues with B!

Emma, I would stick to one nap and maybe throw in a two nap day every 3days or so.  I would do a really short am nap then a long pm nap.

The only way I can get Alyssa down at an EW is let her sleep on me. Will she respond to that or a bottle?

Never tried a bottle, not really into that. I feel it would give her MORE reason to wake kwim?

she would sleep on me, thing is her room is teeny and has no chair on it so i either stand in her nursery and hold her for an hour plus. She would come into our bed but she wont sleep unless its pitch!  ::)

Well I think I'll just have to go with one nap from now on and hope she tacks on her nights. Grrrrr. it was going so well, why oh why does it never last?!
