At that point I would look at waking him after 2 hours to keep 2 decent length naps if that is what you want - but then we did cold turkey 2-1 at 10 months!

Cold turkey?!!  Really???!!!  OMG with dd1 I was reducing the am nap by 15mins every month or so for ages until we had to go cold turkey.  And she was older then 12 months for sure.  This is new territory for me.  Get ready for a vent or two  ;D

I like the idea of capping the naps at 2hrs.  However it will only work for a short period of time.  If he sleeps 10.30-12.30 I'll be just in time to pick up dd1 from preschool at 1pm.  Once he needs more than 3hrs A, which I assume will be next month, I'll have to shake it up again.

Spencer is a total by the clock, on a schedule kid...always has been, so for her, doing the slow tweaking of A times was not the way to go, once she could do 4.5 hours A we were able to get a 3 hour nap and run with it.  School pick up and drop off always throws a wrench in things though!

Sounds like D!!! We were on the 2-1 road by 8 months!

This was her too. SHe needs them pushed and pushed all the time, any transitions are a nightmare but once she's nailed it there 's no going back really. She's good like that. She's a 3 hour napper these days too. (for the time being anyways...blips aside  ::) )

I had to cap naps at 1.5 hours with DD from as young as 4 months.  :o I'd say you are on the right track with the capping.

Ooooookay so we have a routine!   YAAAAY!

Here goes;

Awake 6.00
Nap 1  10.30-12.30
Nap 2  16.00-17.30
BT       19.30

Night wakings are less frequent or not happening finally.  But he wakes up at 6am.  I know, I know it's not thaaaat early.  But he's sleeping 10.5hrs at night and I know he can do 12.  So I am thinking that last A time might be a tad short.  He couldn't handle more than that before, but now that he is taking proper restorative naps I think he needs more than 2hrs before BT.  What are your thoughts?  And how would you go about it?

Weeeeeeeeellllll, when D FINALLY started taking great naps all the time we were left with (and sometimes still are left with) a short A to bed. She needs it pushed but then your day is going to be too long IMO. So, you can either eek out the last A in the hope that the WU gets later or you can cap the AM nap and put him down earlier for his PM nap which, FWIW is what I'd do but only because it worked so well with D.

The last A is pretty short after that good PM nap.....and for being almost 8 months old the WU from the last nap in the day is pretty late in the day.

 Maybe something like this...

 Awake 6
Nap 1  10.30 - 11.15 (possibly shorter/longer depending on how you want to play it...)
 Nap 2  1.30 - 3.30
 BT - 6.30/ 7

Then if you start to get the 12 hour nights you can work on getting the day to a 7-7. If you dont get the 12 hour nights then you are looking at an even earlier start but IME with D the long A before the first nap and the long A to bed really helps stave of EW. Thats just my experience though hon, wouldn't want to upset the apple cart based on what worked for us kwim?

That worked great for K too!  But I'm scared with this one.  He just started to take restful naps and I'm afraid it will take me ages to find that right 2nd A again!  Ugghhh what to do?!

Well you can either wait it out and then something will signal you to change it...like an even earlier EW or nap refusal. Or oyu can bite the bullet! I'm an all or nothing kinda gal so I'd go for it! That said, in theory if you stick with this same naptimes then the AM should shorten of its own accord if he's the kinda bub that would go down UT...make sense?

There are teeth on the way for sure.  Problem is carpool and neurofen don't help.  Ever heard of that??  Im just hoping it's temporary and that he'll get back on track, only to start tinkering with A times again Grrrrr

Carpool? Lol.  Darn predictive text!

Becky, Ryan is a dummy junkie.  So I give him the dummy, then try to burp him and give him a cuddle, then bottle. And meds if I think he's in discomfort, even though they don't work, I still hope ~sigh~

I find that if he wakes up at 4ish we can put him back down with a bottle.  But closer to 6 it's nearly impossible and we end up bringing him out and starting the day in the dark.  I would bring him to bed with us if only he would I back to sleep.  No joy!

What does your day look like?
