Day naps Between Feeds-3 wk old-HELP
« on: October 29, 2011, 18:58:52 pm »
My l/o will be 3 wks on Tues and Ive been practicing 3 hr EASY with my newborn so far so good I can see us moving in the right direction. My only q is during the day after his small A time does he always have to go down in his crib in a quiet dim room? Will that get him confused at all with whats night/day? Currently I dont have any probs with him knowing day from night. I only ask this because during the day Im pretty much in my living room and he has a swing, bouncer and rock n play down here. I know the swing and bouncer are activity so we wouldn't want him to fall asleep in those because of a potential prop issue...but the rock n play is just a great portable place to nap. Or do i always have to put him in his crib and do the shush/pat? Id like to step out and leave hubby with him so I really need to know so he doesn't mess us up. LOL I'm still having a little trouble with the sleep part he'll fall asleep but then wake before that time and be cranky. I guess I'm not staying with him enough to get into the deep sleep? Where does ur l/o nap during the day between feedings? His crib is upstairs but I also have a rock n play in my living room where I am most of the day should I try to atleast do a nap or two in crib then the rest in the rock n play?

There is no issues with putting your LO down for a nap in the lounge as long as your LO will take the nap :) Around 6-12 weeks a lot of LOs will start to fight naps in a loud or bright location...but certainly not all! If you notice it becomes hard to get your LO down for a nap out and about or in the lounge then you may have to reconsider where he naps. I would try to make sure you always do some naps in his cot/basinet once he is a bit older - like 1 every day or two.

I'm not familiar with a rock and play, but would suggest you have a think about it's suitability for spending an extended amount of time in.  Some baby equipment is ok for short use or shaped for a certain purpose but not suitable for extended time, for example a car seat is shaped to protect LO in an impact and many people leave their babies to sleep in a car seat once the nap has started but really it isn't good for their spine to be in long periods.  Just something for you to think about.

With regards to napping in the living room.  I planned to have DS in the living room for all day naps until 6 months (I was so worried about SIDS) but at 10wks DS had other ideas.  He had napped great until then and suddenly wouldn't go down.  After a day or two of problems I decided that, as he was still going down for BT well, I'd try him in his night bed for his nap, he stopped crying and went to sleep instantly! Amazing!  Had I known then what Sara has told you I wouldn't have been so surprised but at the time I couldn't believe he was making choices like that.

If you have space for a travel cot in the living room it would double up as a great play pen later on when he starts scooting around the place and you just really need a safe place to pop him for a while.

Really good point, you would probably be best to PD in a portable bassinet or something like that :)

ChicStylishMom I see you have a few other threads going over on the EASY board. So we don't get too many going and potentially offer conflicting advice I am going to lock this thread. I think hopefully your first question has been answered. :)
