EW are now at 4 am since Sunday ( now Wednesday), he lies in his cot talking and then shouting but not unhappy- not quite sure what to do- I have tried pushing his first A out but he is so tired from the EW + being a bit off colour. I can't count A from 4:00 am otherwise his day will be so messed up. Do I get him up? What do I do?

Yikes!  How is he for his first A time with that wake time?

What does your day look like with this wake time - in EAS please ;)

I normally manage to get him to sleep again in my arms until the normal awake time - 6 or 6:30. All of our A times are between 2:45 and 3 hrs and bed is 7:30 now other than that the EASY is the same as earlier in my post

So it would be like this roughly?

EW at 4am - back to sleep until 6am
Up at 6:00
E 7:00
S 9:00-10:46
E 11:30
S 2:00- 4:00
E 4:30
In bed after bath and bottle by 7:30

Still same duration of naps?  Any NW or cry outs with him resettling himself?

How well is he doing with solids?  I am wondering if the early wake is hunger driven given his age...

How long does it take to get him back to sleep after the EW?  The reason I ask is that some LO's will use this as their first nap and extend night sleep if they are awake for any real length of time before getting back down.

His naps are usually between 1:30 and 2 hrs- sometimes broken sometimes straight through- sometimes he resettles and sometimes he needs his soother although he can replugged himself.

Re: morning, when he wakes at 5 ish he seems to wake up too much and can only resettle on me- then I am too scared to let him wake because of the effect it will have on the day so I tend to hold him - bad I know. Other mornings he will sleep until 6 which is fine. Last night he woke at 2:00 and went back, after a cuddle until 6:00. On the EW if he wakes at 4, it can take nearly an hour to settle him in my arms.

He is doing well with solids and I am just increasing his quantities again after he was fussy with his milk for a while. I thought about hunger but he doesn't get upset when he wakes- just talks and coos, he can do that for ages ( or it feels like it) before he starts shouting.

The trick to solids is to feed him until he refuses ;)  Milk an hour before solids, then be sure to make a little more than he normally eats - you want him to leave a bit behind, that way you know he stopped because he was full :)

If it takes an hour to resettle with the EW - he could be using that as his first nap and extending night sleep which only perpetuates the EW.  As much as it sucks, you should try just getting him up for the day and keeping him up as long as you can... he likely won't make it to a normal nap time, but get him as close as you can without hitting OT land... this should help with the EW.  If your day becomes really long, sneak in a really short CN to get him to BT.

That is a good tip to know re: solids and milk, today he has taken all of his 8 oz bottles without much fuss and ate alot ( for him) at lunchtime, he did similar yesterday and slept until just gone 6.

Re: EW, if he wakes at 4:00 and I get him up, he will then want to sleep by 7:00 instead of 9:00, which is his first bottos time and then he will miss breakfast and throw the rest of the day

It won't completely throw the day off... you would shift everything to match up with the new wake time ;)  So he would get a bottle at wake up, breakfast an hour later...  You may have to add a small snack at some point in the day since the day will be longer for him...

Here's a confusing turn of events, he used to be great a going to sleep- final bottle and then went down no hastle- now he seems to think it is playtime. We have managed today to increase his A to 3 hrs but he is currently playing in his cot growling??? Do I just leave him to it until he gets fed up?? What is going on??

LOL!  Always the way - little monkey... he might need a bit more than 3 hours before bed to settle well ;)  Mine has always needed a longer A before BT compared to the rest of the day.

Hope it works well - remember, it can take a few days to adjust :)
