Solids causing tummy ache?
« on: November 04, 2011, 11:27:30 am »
I have just started giving DD2 solids and I'm using blw. She is 5 and a half months old. The last couple of days I gave her carrot and broccoli in the evening and the following morning she has been cranky and seems to have a tummy ache. There were a few bits in her poo so I think some of it must have gone down. She also had a bit of toast both mornings. Could any of these be causing a tummy ache and should I hold off on solids for a bit? Yesterday she seemed ok by the afternoon. This morning again she wasn't very happy and is now sleeping. Will see how she is this afternoon... Any thoughts?

Broccoli was a no-no with DD2 early on, she has a sensitive gut and is MPI, and the likes of broccoli, cauliflour and sweet potato were too "windy" for her. If I were you I'd stick to the foods you know are safest for her (or in general, ie root vege, pears) for a few weeks as she's still so teeny :) DD2 didn't really get going on solids til 8-9mo, before that it was bits of safe food here and there :)
BTW my DD1 has the dress Eleanor is wearing in your avi, love it :) xxx

We steered clear of wheat until after 6 months which is UK government advice (or at least was a year ago when I was weaning my son).  Also broccoli can be a windy vegetable so it could be that?
Here's my blog which is focussed on simple food for babies, toddlers and families http://mamacook.blogspot.com/

Hmmm I think it may be the broccoli. I'll hold off on that and also won't give anything imn the evening for a bit so she has time to digest. Thanks!!

Maybe just stick with one new food every 3 days for a while?
