I am having the SAME EXACT problem. My DS is now 6 weeks and has been crazy grunty and in pain since he was born after his feedings. Have tried every formula on the block and now today grabbed goats milk hoping it will help. But he literally groans and grunts day and night. We are having a hell of a time over here. Have the reflux meeds and tried ColicCalm, Gripe Water, and Mylicon drops. Nothing has worked. This baby is so uncomfortable. Has anyone's condition gotten any better and if so, what helps?!?!

I was asking the exact question 10 weeks ago. It sounded like we had a tiger in the bassinet after 4am.  I was worried, but it slowly got less and less.  Now at 12 weeks he starts around 5 or 6 and it always results in poop or gas.  I read something about "grunting baby syndrome" online where they do that when they are learning to poop.  I can't be sure that was entirely it, but hopefully you'll feel a little better knowing that it got better quick for us.  But it is really hard to listen to.  We didn't medicate it at all.

We had the same with ds3 and ds2 and they both were hugely gassy babies and had reflux and mspi. Both were medicated. I found that for both I had to be sure to burp them really really well. They did outgrow the grunting but we did struggle for quite a while with the other stuff. Hoping that for you its due to oal.

I was meaning really that I think the grunting got better with time, but DS3 became a difficult feeder due to reflux and the gas was unbelievable at times. Because of this we ended up with major sleep problems (waking every 45 minutes to 2 hours). We had him medicated and I tool dairy, soy and wheat out of my diet. Add to that, teething, which is extra hard on refluxers, and well, our first year was very tough with regards to sleep. Although I had intended to have him sleep trained early I wasn't able to do that as he was so uncomfortable. Then it becomes difficult to determine what is AP and what is truly discomfort. Anyway, I don't want to scare you. I think some people with refluxing babies don't have as much trouble with sleep. DS3 did outgrow it by the end of the first year or so. Once we finally got him falling asleep independently at 13 mo, things improved significantly at night. But, as it turns out, ds# can protest very loudly and 'learns quickly' (i.e., picks up bad habits quickly when we have to AP due to illness and teeth).

I do know that DS3 always needed to be burped properly after all feeds. If not, he would wake if asleep when I set him down. And/or he would grunt and fuss until the air was out.

Reflux + MPSI = lots of grunting at this age, too. Changing my diet definitely helped.  Hugs.
