If its any comfort, Jenn, I have had 3 PP periods (1st one when DS was 4 months) and my supply did drop quite a bit about 2 days before the first one - couldn't work out why DS was feeding every 1.5-2hr when he usually would feed every 4-5hr... My supply didn't drop as much for the second and there was no distinguishable drop with the third, so maybe it will get better for you too. Here's hoping!

HUGS! AF is annoying :(

So I don't really know. Not feeling that great after the LC appointment although she thinks everything is fine. She took 90mls total. This was after not eating for 4 hours. The LC said this was a good amount but she was taking 90 mls when she left the hospital when she was 3 weeks old and weighed 5lbs :-\ I told her this and she said well that's fine because babies don't change their calorie intake until they start solids ??? I have NEVER heard that before??? She said babies milk intake remains the same until they are one year old. I mentioned the change in her wet diapers and she said that fine because she probably just pees all at one time now instead of a bunch of little amounts but that still doesn't make sense because I still change her everytime I feed her and her diapers are way less wet. I guess I am a bit confused because this is a well thought of LC and this just spent seem right. She also said the feeding every 2 hours at night is perfectly normal and i should just keep nursing her if she is hungry. But when I said that there isn't anything there when she is nursing, she's screaming angry. NF she said just try again in 15 minutes???

I'm so lost! What the heck....???

Weird.  I'm no LC but that seems odd.  Maybe you should be reassured she's not worried???

Oh and also, I have left Emily with my Mom a few times over a feed and each time Emily has taken 5oz.

My DH just suggested contacting the nutritionist that worked with us in the hospital and see what she thinks. She told us we could contact her if we ever had any issues :-\

Erin- but it's hard to be reassured when Emily is crying half the day because she seems starving! I don't know :( I'm just really frustrated. Like the last time I saw a LC, I left feeling like this was great and I could do this! This time I left feeling like she didn't really listen to me and am feeling like I have no option but formula :(

Gah.

Definitely.  I hate that you have to keep pushing to figure this out, it would have been nice if the LC had been more helpful.  Sounds like your dh has a good thought with the nutritionist -- maybe if she doesn't have help for you directly, she'll be able to point you somewhere that would?
(((hugs)))

She took 90mls total. This was after not eating for 4 hours. The LC said this was a good amount
I think it was Vicku who posted this info on here but I thought it would help you.  Breast milk changes its composition as the months go on.  So unlike formula which has the same amount of calories per oz, BM changes and has more calories per oz as the time goes on.  So even if she still only taking 90mls it will have more calories per oz than it had when she was 3 weeks.  Thats often why FF babies seem to need solids sooner whereas BF babies get more calories from milk as the time goes on.  Amazing eh?!

Is her reflux under control at the minute?

Have you tried feeding her at the end of a nap to see if she'll take more?  Are you pumping to help stimulate your supply?  I can't remember if I've asked but are you taking fenugreek or similar?

{{{hugs Jenn}}}}

Hmm...VERY interesting Shiv! That makes sense then and makes me feel better! I'm not taking fenugreek but I think I might start. Do I just follow the instructions on the bottle or is there sort of a recommended dose?

As of this minute, her reflux seems controlled but that changes so quickly!

So I heard back from the dietician and she said Emily's growth seems good so not to worry. She did say most babies are taking between 120-180mls at this point though :-\ She said I could offer formula after the feeds if I want too but it's up to me as her growth is fine. So I guess I will keep doing what I'm doing and hope she gets a bit more settled. Today hasn't been as bad. Maybe this is just a strange growth spurt combined with me getting AF. I think I will still try fenugreek though!

I took fenugreek when I nursed DS and got AF back at 4 months pp. You just follow the instructions on the bottle; seemed to work for us. I also drank Ovaltine with malt, and that really helped a lot. I drank some yesterday to help with DD's GS, actually.

Good luck, Jenn! Sorry the LC wasn't very helpful. Could you try someone from the LLL? Here the MWs at the maternity center run a BFing clinic... maybe you have something like that there that can help?

Ovaltine huh?  I've been dosing up on Fenugreek and eating oatmeal most mornings.  Would love something else!

Glad to hear things are more positive today :)
