9 Month Old Very Fussy
« on: November 06, 2011, 20:30:09 pm »
Hi,  my son is 9 month old and is soo picky about what he eats.  He loves yoghurt and toast anything else he will eat a couple of spoonfuls of and then give up.  Anyone had this problem and have any ideas about what to do?  He is a funny baby, he has days where he is very very happy and then days where we is cranky.  We are on our fourth cranky day in a row today!!

Cranky may well equal teething and so that could cause him to be off his food. I would just keep offering various foods so he can pick and choose what he wants. Obviously make sure he gets his milk quota  :)

Oh yes my boy loves those 2 things too. I try to offer other food first then toast, or then yogurt. Teething is def a main culprit with him too. Keep going and he will come round. For us it was also a bit of an age thing I feel. ;)

Yeah I think it's an age thing too.  He is the same whether he is teething or not ;-).

I'd just keep trying different things, particularly at lunchtime where you will perhaps be less worried whether he eats it or not then keep yoghurt puddings or toast for teatime?  Also you can mix up what you offer to keep it 'yoghurt like' or 'toast like' to widen his choices.

E.g., here are some things which are similar to yoghurt but slightly different to widen the choices he takes:
Mousse:  http://mamacook.blogspot.com/2011/08/no-added-sugar-mousse.html
Fool:  http://mamacook.blogspot.com/2011/08/blackberry-fool-for-toddlers.html
Pannacotta:  http://mamacook.blogspot.com/2011/05/yoghurt-panna-cotta-ok-for-babies-if.html

Instead of toast, why not give garlic bread?  Or try some Spanish tomato bread?  http://mamacook.blogspot.com/2011/11/pa-amb-tomaquet-for-toddlers-and-adults.html  That could be an accompaniment to something else so you have a 'safety net' of something he will eat?

I don't think only taking 2 tsp is too bad though.  At least it's not a flat refusal!
Here's my blog which is focussed on simple food for babies, toddlers and families http://mamacook.blogspot.com/

Thanks!  You are right, at least it's not a flat refusal. I will try some other similar things that's a good idea.  Out of the blue last night he decided to eat chicken and potato cos that's what we were all eating.  So maybe I need to just stop stressing and let him sort it out himself.  I remember stressing about things I couldn't change with my daughter too, she has turned out just gorgeous!!!    Thanks for your help. x
