Arrrrrggggggghhhhhh.

Title says it all. Getting Z into his high chair is becoming a battle...why? I had no idea!
Anyone else had this happen, how did you deal with it? ATM if he doesn't need to be in it I don't bother ie a banana (I hold it and he comes for a bite) but breakfast and dinner are non negitiable really. It's not that I keep him in it for periods of time, he only really eats in it and when he finishes I don't make him stay in it. Once he starts eating he seems to come right......

::) ::)

YUP!!! Rosa is at this nonsense too.  She only has her bum in the seat and she is saying 'all done, OUT'.

I'm just perservering.  TBH though I am doing all meals and snacks in the chair at the table as usual so she doesn't get confused and wonder why some foods are allowed away from the table and some away.  But I swear if I hear 'all done, OUT' one more time i may implode!

LO #2 and #3 both did this around this age.  We switched from a high chair to a booster chair (strapped to a kitchen chair) and served the food on plates/bowls at the table.  I think they just wanted to be like bigger siblings and to take part in the social aspect of meal time rather than being off isolated in the high chair.

The problem I get is if I do this he will throw the plate off the table. He's kind of picky with food at the moment too so I am just offering lots of alternatives.

H doesn't like to be enclosed anywhere really so maybe this is part of the problem.

We have a booster so I'll try it :D

Shiv is your DD2 talking like that already...man I would love it if Zac could say that at this age...sigh.

I found with mine that there was less throwing b/c they were more content with their situation once we made the move.

A booster at the table really helped here.  I saw no other option though, they just cannot sit on a big chair at this age!  We tried when F started screaming about going into his booster, and it was a nightmare.  So back into the booster he went and we just perservered, and he got over it.

Mine must be spirited with eating in the high chair too!  OMG.  I feel like I could explode - she claps for all done before I get her bib on most days!

I have an extra bit of fun though - she wiggles her legs in a way that makes you think she has discovered a dirty fun time (LOL!) and she will do it in protest of being in the high chair (also does it anywhere she is strapped down - car seat/stroller too)... she actually got so mad at me the other day that she passed out!  Note - she tends to hold her breath while she is doing the wiggle bit.  OY!

I am just persevering too.. though I think she is winning :/

Shiv is your DD2 talking like that already...man I would love it if Zac could say that at this age...sigh.

She's a total rascal.  She doesn't say a lot.  Tends to point and go 'uh' and i tend to know what she wants so why bother speaking!!  'All done, OUT' is what she says the most!!  She only has a few other words.  She a fab wee signer though so that helps!  Zac will get there soon enough!

We are getting a lot of the throwing too.  I've been just giving a few bits at a time as she tends to throw while chewing as something to do!  But today I very nearly missed her chucking her bowl with tomato soup and bread in it as I didn't jump to it the second she said all done!  Total total rascal.

Tell me about it.  Sometimes I think I should just cut out the middle man and just dump her whole meal on the floor myself.

We have got this with most aspects of life at the moment as he has learnt the word NO this week.  ::). Could you try putting the food on the tray so he can see it is there when he gets in the chair?

Yeah we are getting a LOT of wasted food all over the floor ::)

I have made a bit of progress. In the past when I try to get Z to feed himself he isn't interested (with spoon meals - others he eats fine with his hands) but today I tried again and he did it, he ate his breakie all by himself with a bit of help getting more food on the spoon etc so this may have been part of the frustration the last few days...not wanting to get in and be fed, or have finger food, but feed himself

This weekend we will try out the booster. Hoping it helps :D

I have better luck if the food is already on the tray, just as Buntybear mentioned...

Sara - I think that is the same frustration we are reaching now too... totally the "I do it myself" bit ::)
