Moving to cows milk from formula for his bottle
« on: November 20, 2011, 21:56:59 pm »
I would really like to move Zac to cows milk from formula for his daily bottle. Problem is he doesnt really like cows milk that much and wont drink it as a drink.
Today I ran out of formula so I did about 75% formula 25% milk in his bottle and he drank it no problem.

I suspect this is ok ? and wanted to see if anyone else has gradually introduced milk as a drink this way? Once he is drinking milk well I want to move him to a cup and reduce the temp from warm to room temp. He is also BF once a day (sometimes 2ce) so I think he is used to the sweeness of BM and is just got used to the taste of the specific formula (He wont drink other ones ::) )

That is exactly how I introduced cows milk to my DS right at 12 months old (at my pediatrician's suggestion).  I gradually introduced it as follows:

75% formula/25% milk
50% formula/50% milk
25% formula/75% milk
100% milk

I did not have any problem with DS refusing his milk when introduced this way!  He is now almost 2 years old and LOVES his milk!  Good luck!  :)

It's fine to mix! We did with both kids to wean them from reflux formula onto cow's milk. It did take a few goes with DS but that was more to do with the thickness rather than taste.

We did exactly the same with C from reflux formula to cow's milk. She didn't even notice but yet wouldn't drink cow's milk on its own before. Worked like a charm. ;)

Thanks ladies :) After that post I have actually decided to wait a touch longer as Zac seems to have tummy issues. We have a lot going on and I suspected the cows milk would be fine as he doesnt seem to have a dairy allergy (trialled in the past.) However, until he is better I will leave it.

Thanks so much for the posts though, now I know its okay I am sure it will work once we get there ;)

Thanks for the breakdown Froggymum :-*

Sounds like a plan!

I was thinking about this last night - we went even slower than above. I swapped 1oz per week when  we weaned DS so it took about 8 weeks to completely swap!
