grrr will not eat less than 4 hours
« on: November 24, 2011, 18:15:41 pm »
so obviously Levi is ready for the 4 hour EASY foodwise and Ive been feeding him every 4 hours but sometimes I try to give him his feed a bit earlier if a nap falls right after or right before he would normally eat, but the boy will literally not eat 5 mins earlier than the 4 hour mark!

he woke at 3.45am and I gave him a bottle, so imagine the dilemma when he wakes at 6.10am.... Ive been trying to feed him for an hour now and hes only taken 10mls, and im pretty sure that's just spilled out the side of his mouth. he will not eat till 7.45am however thats also the time he should be falling asleep.

this is rather annoying, does anyone else have this problem? its frustrating the cr@p out of me!

We went through it with both kids, it just means you can't do a true EASY until their A catches up with their E. It's quite common with formula fed babies (and refluxers ;)). The only thing we made sure to do was not let them actually fall asleep on the bottle when E was at S time. It shouldn't be for long so just go with the flow for now - it is frustrating though!

well i had to feed him right before bed, he was falling asleep on teh bottle but after I sat him up I just walked around the room wiht him for about 2 mins and put him into bed then, he still needed me to pat him to sleep (because he had gone over his A time due to the feeding!) so I guess thats not technically feeding to sleep is it?
Im just worried that hes gonna think its part of his wind down to have a bottle because right now our EASY is back to front so he eats right before sleeping each time

Until he stretches his A time I don't think there is much you can do really, if he won't feed you can't force him. If you feed him in his bedroom try doing it in another part of the house and then a wind down in his room so he hopefully gets the difference!

hmmm might have to try my room, he doesnt eat properly in light rooms or where there is other people etc... hes starting to sound alot more like Caleb as he gets older, Caleb did the same thing, had to feed him in his room away from others and in a darker setting

We went through it too - it only lasted for a few weeks until DD's A time caught up :)  I used to have the same issue with distraction during feeds too (still do!) so I used to change her bum after her bottle to break the link so to speak :)

hmm I would do that but with his reflux I dont like to change his bum after a feed.

well he ended up sleeping 2 hours, woke up hungry as anythign and it had only been 3 hours so I fed him and he finished the whole bottle, perhaps GS? he was 4 months old yesterday :)

Hadn't thought about the reflux bit - good point!  I'm lucky that mine has never been a spiller at all ;)

For sure it could be that 4 month GS - it's a doozy!

Dare I suggest this...I know nothing about bottle feeding this young so feel free to tell me to shove my idea ;)

What if you offered him a little less milk at each feed, would he then eat a touch earlier? Ie 50mls less? You could then give him a really big bottle at BT...

Like I said just throwing a random idea into the wind :)

lol Sara, I would never tell you to shove it!!!

Ive tried offering him less, if the boy is hungry, hes hungry lol, especially with being sick I dont want him to take less because hes more at risk of being dehydrated. it all worked out in the end today, was just muddled up a bit with a few short naps thrown in so I guess I just ride it out :D
