How much liquid does your LO drink each day?
« on: November 27, 2011, 23:26:07 pm »
Alexandra is just a year old and is still on 3 bottles a day.  I have reduced the formula in them and added some extra water to them, but she isn't a huge fan of using a sippy cup... I'm not sure if cutting a bottle would cause her to make up for it or not...

Right now, she gets
wake and Bottle - 5 ozs formula plus 1.5 ozs extra water
breakfast with her sippy
bottle and nap - same as wake up bottle
wake and lunch with her sippy
dinner with her sippy
BT bottle of 8 oz plus 1 oz of extra water

How much fluid does your LO take in a day?  I am just wondering if they typically drink less than they did when on bottles :)

I don't really measure how much water Zac has but I would say he has it throughout the day and with meals maybe 75mls some days and up to 200mls on a hot day. He was down to two Milk feeds a day but things weren't really working so we are actually back up to a BF on WU and BT and a 8-9 oz bottle 30mins before his nap.

It varies loads and it's freaked me out a little with the colder weather, he's drinking way less.  Some days as little as 50ml probably, some days (hot days particularly), 200ml or more.

I go by his poos.  If he starts getting a bit firmer, I start pushing the water a bit more or giving some extra cow's milk if he's having a "I don't want water" day.

How firm should they be? I'm completely unsure what's the normal range at this age (12 - 18mo)..

I tend to go by how many wet nappies we're seeing, and if there are plenty then I guess he's getting enough :)

2.5 bottles here so about 15 oz of milk a day and I would say the equivalent in water each day....both kids have always been huge water drinkers....today she wouldn't take a bottle of milk cause she wanted her sippy with water!

Amy - I would be a big water drinker if I lived in the desert too ;)

I live in Northern Canada so temps are similar to the UK, but we get a few months that are much colder - down as low as -40C!

I think I just need to get my head around the fact that she won't replace her formula ounce for ounce - I don't drink that much, so why would she?!

Sounds like she is actually about average given that she takes 3 bottles still (total about 19 ozs formula and 3 ozs water in there too  - plus she has about 1-2 ozs from her sippy).  Maybe I will drop her bottles down a bit more!

I can do this - ugh - where did my baby go?  Who left this little toddler in her place ::)

LOL tell me about toddlerdom, they change so fast! You may find she prefers her water tepid rather than cold Kara?

She doesn't really seem to mind the temperature - I give it to her warm first thing in the morning but she will easily drink it at room temp too.  Especially with apple juice mixed in it LOL!

On poos I generally expect them to be somewhere between pretty squishy (but not watery) and adult poos albeit soft ones.  He's only once or twice done really firm ones which has been when he's not been drinking as much.

Yup - poos should be soft and somewhat formed once they are doing well with solids :)
