EW..when will 1-0 end?!
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:49:13 pm »
Its B! He's at it again. ::) Now its not that much of an issue as he lives by the rules of Mr Sunshine so we dont see or hear him until 7 but I know he's awake earlier than that. DH got up for work at 4.45 this am and said he heard him in there calling Mummy albeit very quietly.

He's tired and has been for 6 months with this 1-0 nonsense. When I give him a nap he EW then too plus we get BT nonsense. He'll pull of an 8 hour night when he naps.  :(

He's a wreck and breaking down at nothing, he's fine at his 2 AMs at nursery but as soon as he sees me he's in tears. Every dinnertime is just a mess.

I'm going it alone Mon thru Fri so its getting very tiresome.

I dont expect a solid answer, more of a WWYD question really. Should I just offer him a nap (which I think he'd take now) then at least he's not an OT wreck? I'm really not keen as I am now just at the point where I want to get through this 1-0 and sometimes I feel like that would be going backwards. Its just not really getting any better.

Emma DD1 is about 2.5 months older than B but I have come to a decision that I should just push through this, it is SO not worth the stupid 8/9 hour nights for (for us) a measly 20 min nap in the day. She would sleep longer but then nighttime is even worse.

What are his nights like on no nap?

It's hard when you *know* they will sleep every day if you let them, so it makes you feel like they need it, but IMO they need a decent night's sleep more xx

What about a super short nap? Enough to get him through but not too much to interfere with BT?

I don't know tbh hun, we havent quite got that far with this 1-0 nonsense yet. It's tough going :(

Off to deal with my screaming, nap-refusing monster......   ::)

Hey Emma!  :)

The only slight ray of hope I can offer, after months of going through the nightmare that is 1-0 with DD, is that it does get better eventually!

I found in the end after dancing around with nap & no nap days that I just decided to cut the nap out totally & did early BT's. We went through months of EW's & tired meltdowns but over the last month or so things seem to be coming together (crossing fingers/touching wood etc  ;)!!) & generally she is in bed by 7pm & awake around 7am, she's also coping much better with handling the tiredness during the day (being at pre-school 4 AM's a week means she's knackered but the tantrums etc are a lot less & more manageable now).

I would say that it's taken us over 6mths to get to this point & of course I'm not resting on my laurels just yet!!

I could have written this too Emma. i am so tired of the meltdowns and just knowing he is tired...H is different though in that he will not nap, he just won't BUT it would not mean a shorter night. Fir us the nights get shorter because he is OT. It really sucks and just don't know what to do with him anymore.

Thing is the getting him down for the super short nap doesn't make it worth it and Baby D naps from 12-3 so a car nap is out of the question really. He would incredibly grumpy too!

I let him have a nap on Saturday, first time in MONTHS but he couldn't cope anymore. He slept for 1.5 and then he didn't fall asleep for BT until 9pm, he had an EW the next day too. So the nap actually made him MORE tired the next day.

We are powering through, that nap on Sat was the first since the Summer (illness aside) but he's just not getting any less tired. I wasn't that fussed when DH was coming home from work at 5 but now I have to do the enitire day, every day by myself from WU through to BT. Every. Single.Day. Its wearing me thin and I really thought we;d be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel by now but its not happening.

Sorry ladies, more of a vent than anything. It seems either way we get EW, either way he's a tired wreck.

I honestly do not know how you do this. I'm now on my own all day for some of the week (but not as much as you, and at least DH is home later in the evening for some company) and I'm finding it hard, and that's with just one - you must be shattered :(

It is tough, especially when you can see how tired they are. I found adding a nap in made things worse too & we got shorter nights after hours of messing around at BT. I think if you can bear it, push on through with no nap, do quiet time with him when D is sleeping & try & keep PM's low key-ish & then early BT. Unfortunately, there's no quick win with this transition  :P!

yep that's exactly what I've found Sianie, it's so tough to get through the day (although noticably better now than a month ago) but so worth it when they're in bed at a decent time and you have an evening to yourself! x

Yep, at least they go down straight away at BT after no-nap.......it's tough going but ploughing on through it the best you can with the odd 'emergency' CN in the car seems to be the best way to survive it!  ::)

Ugh, I just didn't think we'd still be in this OT situation 6 months down the line. I am struggling at the end of the day, I really am.  :(

{{Hugs}}.....I never thought that the 1-0 transition would be so painful, I naively thought it would be the easiest one & that they would drop the nap & that would be it, lol!

hardest transition ever here - for Oscar that was :-(((

took even longer thanks to crazy preschool environment and lack of quiet time and a non eating preschooler who would finish his 6am WU, 8am to 3pm day after eating maybe half a PB sandwich and then collapse on public transport on the way home....ugh, remember it so, so well.

All I can say is push, push, push the EBedtimes....as best as you can.

We are getting as much sleep now (ok, its Reception and his brain is fried at the end of the day) as we did even 2 yrs ago...

Emma is so, so, so much easier for sleep and always has been, thank goodness xxx I mean, I don't remember any and I mean ANY transitions with her sleepwise at all. Yes, I tweaked but I did it when the tiniest sign came (had a brill childminder as well) and we were back on track within 2 or 3 days....simple as that. Why can't they all be like that, eh?

I'm struggling to get him dow for an early night these days. D needs to go down forst as he's so bloody pernickety with his W/D and trying to out him to bed first often ends in disaster with neither kids settling. I have tried it every which way!

SO she goes to bed first usually about 6/6.30 and then he goes straight after so mire often than not he's not asleep until 7/7.15. Its not ideal really but I dont know how else to work it for him.
