Thanks everyone. I chickened out this morning because we were going to a program and she fell asleep on me so when she gets up we're going to have one for lunch.

Eggs seem to be ok. 4 days now and she's fine :D

So wheat is fine, eggs seem to be fine. Was it just some milk that slipped in somewhere? Or does she need it to build up more? Still stumped on that one but she's doing great for the moment and fingers are crossed that it continues.

We go on Wednesday to our new Dr and I'm getting my lists and pictures ready. Poor guy won't know what hit him :P I think we're going to ask for a repeat on the RAST and I'll explain about her not having had any antihiastimines for the past few months. We have something new causing a reaction so surely that will be enough to convince him to go with it. We're also going to push for testing for the girls but we don't know what really to ask for with them. In NB where we used to live, they could only check for dairy and egg at E's age. Not sure what they have here but hopefully something more.

Yay for eggs  ;D  Makes life so much easier the less you have to avoid!

Could or would?  Our allergist could check for darn near anything, but he would only tests for foods she had actually ingested and had a rxn to.  The only exception to that was he offered next visit to scratch test for penicillin to prove one way or another if she is allergic (he's a bit of a pompous @ss, but I knew that going in, and overall he was pretty good, but he just put her rxn to penicillin down to a random viral rash, where I would like to be sure before giving it again)

The egg continues to go well as well as the wheat. So I'd say at this point that they're safe. She's having lots and acting and sleeping fine. Poo is fine also.

We just got back from our first Dr's appt. He was good but unfortuately not much help with it. It would appear that dh and I know more than he does and he was quick to admit that this isn't his area. He wants to refer to a paed and an allergist but we've already got that in the works from an earlier appt from a walk-in clinic so we just have to wait until the beginning of March ::) He wasn't even sure if he COULD order a RAST for allergy testing or if it' on the responisbility of a paed. So I'm fine with that. He wants a paed to follow the girls for their various concerns with food and I'm more than happy to continue with that. It was pretty chaotic in the office with the girls who are OT so we left it at that and I'm more than happy to also get the big girls referred.

He took note of their milestones and weights and has no concerns which was a bit frustrating to have to explain the past few years to him. I'm glad I had our charts as we really think he didn't believe us at first how small E was. He's thinking perhaps MSG so we can trial that, but I'm not a big fan of MSG and don't usually let the girls have it. So purposely giving it for a food trial seems a bit odd. He wasn't familiar with Nutramigen as a formula so my guess is that children are not his area of expertise. But he's more than willing to refer to the apropriate specialists so I'm happy with that. Just not happy with the wait times.

Hopefully we can work with what we have as we don't have a choice ::) until March. I'll keep trialling foods, though the milk won't be touched until after we see the paed.

Vicki, GP's are generalists, here in Australia their real purpose is to know what is 'normal' & 'abnormal' & to point people in the right direction, be that helping with high bloodpressure or referal to the appropriate specialist.  Even with specialist they specialise within their fields so I can completely get that he didn't have a good understanding of children or allergy.

TBH I would prefer to have a GP who said "I think this is something I should refer you on" than a lets try all these things & then if we don't get to an answer I can refer you... which is whay my FIL's GP does & he ended up in & out of hospital for 4 weeks over something that could have been sorted far more easily with a referal to the specialist in the first place.

Also My former GP (when I lived the other side of the city) & I once had a laugh as my boss at the time was one of his Lecturers when he did Medicine... he told me that in his 5 years of training they did 4 weeks on 'Allergy', at the time I was working in Allergy (at a grass roots cellular level) & I definitely knew more than he did & I can say I don't know much about food allergies.

Thanks Kate. I'm thinking that I'll be happier this way than the wait and see bit that we've been doing for the past four years with my other Dr. Yes, she was knowledgeable but I'd rather have the specialists.  I 'know' that something's up and something not overly common for what we've experienced. But I must admit it did feel a bit odd to have a MD tell me that I knew something more in an area than he did. It certainly sets up for a good working relationship if he plans to be that honest :)

So I think we've made some progress. We unfortunately had two days of diarrhea again :'( and what appeared to be stomach cramping. We had been giving E some of those fruit bars (not quite like a fruit roll up but kind of like that idea), and she was really miserable not long after eating them. She had always had them and then I realized that she was getting a different flavour. Strawberry. So we were like, ok the bars in that flavour aren't that great. Today she had some mixed frozen berries and this time there were some strawberries in them. Diarrhea.

And that got me to thinking about the applesauces she was having a while back. We get another brand now and they don't have the strawberry in the unsweetened form so I don't buy it anymore. Perhaps this is the mystery ingredient? I KNOW that dairy was slipping in with the pancakes but she was only having them once per week before but diarrhea every day.

So I know for a fact that strawberries are causing diarrhea. I don't know if they were the mystery ingredient but we do know that they don't agree with her. So something else I'm going to ask for.

We're getting somewhere, if not adding new issues lol ::) ::) ::)

If strawberries bother her, what about kiwi? They are supposed to be related allergy wise!  Would be nice to pin down the mystery rxn though.

Interesting... Strawberries are part of the Rose family. My niece has a strawberry allergy and her allergist had told her that other members of the Rose family are youngberry, quince, loganberry, dewberry, boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry and apple. But he stressed that none of these fruits are in the Fragaria genus like the strawberry is. She can actually tolerate the other fruits fine but each LO is individual of course.

So we're heading to the Paediatrician on Thursday. I've come to find out that the appointment was only booked for eczema ??? but I've had my GP also update the referral to include allergies and breathing troubles. I'm pretty sure once I pull out pictures of reactions with eczema and hives we'll start getting somewhere in the allergy testing way of things. I'm really getting ready to push. And push hard. This has gone on long enough. E has enough Nutramigen to do her for another three or so months but we need to get to the bottom of things now. She's developing some more breathing issues which we're not sure if it follows sleep apnea (the girls didn't have breathing problems with their apnea), asthma, or it's yet another type of reaction to something she's exposed to.

These showed up today. Hives for an hour on her face and then they disappeared. No idea. I did wipe her face after lunch so the cloth was on the counter beforehand and could have come into contact with anything. I'm super careful with peanut butter and dairy so I really don't know what could have caused it.

Getting my pics and a write-up ready. Hopefully this guy is serious because I'm ready to be the mother he doesn't want in his office. FX on that one.
