Switching to Formula
« on: December 17, 2011, 15:16:26 pm »
Hi, not sure where to post this feel free to move if need be!

DD2 is 5 days old now, I feel I've given things are good shot and BF is just not for me.  I remember with DD1 I tried BF to but just managed to make it home from the hospital and then gave up.  We have been home for 3 days now I think I'm giving up.  Things are actually going well, it's just me, I don't like it, don't feel comfortable doing it and think things would be better with formula.  I'm just looking for support.  I think I have reviewed all the pros and cons list of both breastfeeding and formula feeding and still want to do formula.  I know it isn't as good for your baby.

I'm just looking for support and advice.

I was in the same situation. Lasted tiny bit longer, but not much.
I don't think there is right or wrong, better or worse - there's just what is good for you and your baby. I wish someone was there to tell me that to even just take off the pressure.
You'll love your baby just the same, you'll be a good mom just the same, you'll have a happy healthy child just the same.

((((hugs))))) Sweetie

I have BF one bub and bottle fed one bub and they are as healthy as each other, in fact DD gets more things (she has allergies, eczema etc) than DS does/did and she was the BF one!  ::) Please dont beat yourself up about it, if you have made your decision its important that you are happy with it.

 Happy Mummy makes for a happy baby.  ;D  :-* :-* :-*

I Tried to Bf my oldest daughter, lasted 5 days of pumping then dried up, my milk never came in, I was so so harsh with myself for not Bfing her. With this baby I Bf for the 1st 24hrs then pumped for 2 weeks then  milk dried up, I was ok with this. I was never comfortable with a baby on my breast it did not feel natural for me at all. I never found the experience bonding either. I am happy and calm this time around with my choice not to BF.
I hope you can feel this way too, there is nothing wrong with formula feeding.
Hugs

Nothing but love and *hugs* from me, hon.  I'm not too keen on bfing either, and only have been getting by with trying to get through 1 day and 1 week at a time.  With Aaron, my supply dried up after some antibiotics.  I felt guilty until I realized that it hasn't impacted our closeness one bit.  He's an extremely healthy and smart little boy.  He's the sun in my sky.  Don't worry a bit about what others think.  Find the right balance for you and your family.

Here's a link that's helped me (and helped me with Aaron) realize how much even a little bit of bfing can do for our babies:

Hun, do not feel bad one bit!

I too tried to BF DD and she just wasn't having one bit of it... it stressed me out, it stressed her out... bad scene all around really.  She has been bottle fed exclusively since she was 10 days old... has had one cold.. it lasted 3 days (I had the same one and was sick for 10 days!).

Happy momma = happy baby and vice versa :)

^^^This.  It is about balance.  You have to do what make sense for your family.

There is loads of good info here about getting your LO onto a bottle and weaning BFing.

I am just going to pop you over to FF where you can get some great advice.   There is a lot of emotions around this topic but I think happy mom = happy baby sums it up for you.  What is right for yo both is the perfect choice.  I hope others wont sway that feeling!!

Thank you everyone!  I have given two formula bottles so far and after the first one she zonked out for 2.5 hours and then woke and just stared for a good 15 min then started to show some hunger signs so I gave her another bottle and then we did her bath then a small top up and now she is happily sleeping in her crib!
