3 yo does not want variety.
« on: December 20, 2011, 15:27:13 pm »
So ODS will be 3 in February and he is a very picky eater.  During lunch we have been offering new things and for the most part he is receptive.  But for breakfast and dinner he demands his usual.  For breakfast has organic cereal with almond milk and loves it and for dinner i make him steel cut oates with fruit.  The cereal and the oatmeal are 2 very healthy meals, but I'm worried that it might not be good to eat the same thing day in day out.  If I start experimenting he could be very stubborn and just refuse to eat period.  (like every toddler :-)
What say you ladies??

Thanks

I have a very picky 3yo myself.  IMO it's ok to stick within his small range of foods, if they are healthy, kwim?  And definitely keep offering new stuff.  Will your LO drink smoothies?  My boys will drink a smoothie and I can make sure they are getting a lot of their daily nutrition that way, even on days when they refuse most other things.  ::)

My allergist says it is ok to eat a small variety of foods. A recent programme in the uk also said to give fussy eaters what they want as if you force them to et other foods it will become a real issue and be put off food. As Martina says offer new foods. Maybe one with his usual foods.

Thank you ladies.. you put my mind at ease.
@Martina - ODS only drinks WATER!!!  lol  One day when he was about 20 months he woke up and i offered him his usual morning bottle of milk, he took it looked at it and gave it back to me... and that was that for milk.  I tired offering again in bottles and in sippy cups but he just said no.

Does he get milk in his cereal and oats? Cheese and yoghurt at lunch? Vitamin drops in his cereal?

If you are in the UK ReadyBrek has lots of calcium and vitamins in it.  Soup is also great for getting veggies in to him.

He does eat soup and his lunch is usually varied with meat and grains and veggies.  Since he has been sick I have had off dairy, but he does get almond milk which has all the vitamins and calcium.  Also since i'm still nursing my YDS, i give him BM in his cereal.
