Dropping the nap?
« on: December 22, 2011, 00:44:16 am »
Hi! DD is 2y8m, and we have a new 2 week-old baby at home.  Since the arrival of the baby, DD's naps have shortened to 1h max, and today she completely refused the nap at daycare.  I read in the FAQ's that it seems to happen with the arrival of a new baby but I'm not sure what to do about it? I doubt her sleep needs have changed so drastically overnight?  She wasn't OT tonight at all though.

Hi there, it's unlikely that she would drop her needs so quickly.  If anything, they seem to need a lot at this age due to language acquisition and explosions and accelerated development.  Even if she's not OT now, after more days like this, she will be.  Is she too interested in what the baby is doing?  Could she already be OT - is she being woken at night by the baby?
The tweaking never stops!

She is really interested in what the baby is doing - I was actually wondering if she is waking up at night since when DS wakes up, he cries really hard because he's hungry. But if she does wake up, she doesn't call out to us, or get out of her room - which would be unusual for her.

Today she did an ok nap at daycare. Hopefully it was just an isolated incident and she'll get back to napping longer -
we need the quiet time in the PM! :)
