6 Month old waking 2 - 3 times a night - Growth Spurt?
« on: December 30, 2011, 19:03:35 pm »
Here are the questions and answers below:

How old is your child? 6 Months exactly
What’s his/her daily routine?  here is the routine yesterday:

7:30AM - wake and BF
9:00AM - solids 4TBSP cereal and a fruit
10:15AM - Nap till 11:45AM
11:45AM - BF
12:45PM - Solids TBSP veggies
2:00PM - Nap (usually wakes at 45 min mark, BF again and then back to sleep for another 45Min)
4PM - wakes
7PM bath, bed asleep by 7:30PM
Lastnight woke up at 11:45PM, 2:45AM and 7AM for the day

Do you bottle or breastfed?? Breastfeed

How much? or how long? see above

If breastfed.. one side or both?? (at each feed) both sides each feed

How many wakes per night? 2 - 3 times

What’s your LO like when waking at night? How long is he/she up? BF to sleep 10 minutes

When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Or is it a mantra cry? I think it starts as a Mantra Cry and then if I don;t know in it escalates, I try to wait it out but once it sounds desperate I go in.

What have you tried to settle?? just breastfeeding

What do you do for A time and how long is it?2 - 2.5 hours

Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones? he is teething just cut a tooth

Have you introduced cereal? Why, how much, and how many times a day? (for LO’s under 6 months)  see above

Do they have a prop? If so what is it? no props but he sucks his thumb all the time

Do they have a lovie? no

I don't know what to do I am so tired every day, i have a 2 year old as well so I can not nap during the day normally.  I need to stop him from waking so many times at night.....

Also, he only sleeps long 1.5 - 2 hour naps if he is in his swing.  I am thinking if I can rid him of the swing it might help him sleep better at night????  Maybe that's my problem?>??>??

Hi there, hugs for the NW hun, I know how awful sleep depravation is. There are a couple of things that jump out at me. First I wonder if your LO is a little OT by BT as that last A is quite long at 3.5 hrs. Maybe if you pushed the second A time longer by 10 or 15 mins every few days until it is 2h 45 like the morning A. Then the second nap might be longer (45 mins could be UT) and would make the last A time to BT shorter. Does that make sense?

Also the fact that you are feeding to sleep each time for the NW has probably become a prop. Have you ever tried settling any other way? How does your DS fall asleep for naps and at BT? Is he fed to sleep then too?

I will try to extend the 2nd A time, you are probably right but it I was always trying to adjust it as normally he will only sleep for 45 min for the 2nd nap but maybe if I make it longer it will help with getting OT by BT.  As for feed to sleep, he never does it for naps or bedtime, he always falls asleep on his own or in his swing but I am in the midst of getting rid of his swing today.

Here is today so far:

wake 7:15AM BF
9:30AM - solids
10:15AM - 11:00AM nap (only napped for 45minutes, tried to BF and put him back down awake but would not go back to sleep)
12:00PM - solids
1:45PM - nap (only slept for 45 minutes) then I BF him again and put him back down awake and he fell asleep till I woke him at 4:30PM so we don;t disrupt bed time.
5:00PM - solids
7:00 pm or 7:30pm (depending on when he gets tired)

What way do you suggest settling at night, pick up put down?

I will be weaning slowly to bottle and formula in the next couple of weeks so there will be no more breast anyway.  I wonder how this change will be the night wakings.....

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Yes if you decide not to feed before a certain time in the night then you can resettle with shush/pat (if that doesn't annoy your LO) or PU/PD if DS wakes before the time that you would feed.
