Newborn help!
« on: January 02, 2012, 14:32:22 pm »
Hi All--

I have a 5 week old breastfeeding.  I have been doing EASleep since day 1 and waking her every 3 hours during the day to eat.  I am putting her down awake (as much as possible) and shhh patting.  Sometimes i have to use paci if she's overtired, but then it falls out immediately.

She WAS going 4 hour stretches at night, and sometimes a 5 hour stretch.  But in the past week it has been 2-3 hour stretches and then 2 hours.  Last night an hour and a half!  I know I shouldn't feed her at this point after 1.5 hours, but I'm so tired I don't know what to do.  She's so little... I don't want to let her cry.  But I'm afraid I'm creating habitual wakings by feed her so soon.

My question is, should I make her go 4 hours at night and use paci to get her there?  Or growth spurt and just feed?

I am a 2 1/2 year old at home with me and my husband travels a ton, so getting her back to 4 hours at night is optimal, if not crucial for my mental health!!

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.  My doctor said month 2 is huge for development and growth and to expect sleep and eat pattern changes.  But didn't think it would happen so soon!

Thanks,
Kristen

The 6 week growth spurt is enormous, so my guess is that it's a growth spurt - I'd feed her, she's so so tiny yet, and the growth spurts come so quickly at this age.  If she's taking a full feed at those night feeds, then you're doing just fine!
