WI/WO method for NW
« on: January 02, 2012, 20:49:22 pm »
Please help as I'm shattered! DD is 13 months and is a text book baby. However, recently her night sleeping has been atrocious, waking up to 7 times a night. As a baby we could put her down to fall asleep independently and she would STTN. But not anymore. I am going to use WI/WO method for her bedtime and the question I have is do I use this method for NW as well? She can resettle herself as Iv just watched her do it on the video monitor!

Can someone advise me on how to use this method during the night. I am willing to start tonight as, to be honest, Iv had enough now and it needs to stop.

Thanks in advance
Mum to Lily - Candice

Hi Candice, bless you!! You sound fed up!

Think you are better off over on the sleeping for toddlers board, will ask the mods to pop you over

Lots of support over there for you, with LO around Lilly's age

Good luck and hugs

2 hours of PD, screaming (no tears though), throwing dummys and snuggles out the cot, WI/WO, DD is finally asleep and my head is pounding. That was probably the worse bedtime we've actually ever had. Anyone who has any advice will be appreciated. Just going to have a quick shower before the round of NW start. TBH I dont even know if im doing any of these sleep methods right. Me and my DH need pointing in the right direction so we are both doing the same thing.

Thanks
Candice

Oh boy! Can you post your routine? Do you suspect teething?  Any props used to help her fall asleep?

Hun we have just been through the exact same drama, lasted a good few weeks then suddenly WI/WO worked. but the following had to be true.
A time right so LO tired but not OT
DH had to do it! ( I made it worse and would cave)
Don't put the lovey and dummies in and out with LO. Ours just started playing and getting hyped up with DH or I in there.

My Lo is touchy spirited and I never thought Wi/WO would work, But I guess the key is consistency, and this is what we were dong wrong...

As sabs said what is your routine like ATM..Lo may be Ut at Bt

Ok, do we have two routines which all depend on the length of nap she has so I'll post them both.

Wake 7am
E 7.30-8am
A
S between 11 and 12 depending if we go to playgroup

Wake 45 mins later and will not go back to sleep all chatty and smiley
E 12.30-1pm
A
S 3.30 (30 mins only)

E 4.30-5pm
A bedtime routine
S always by 7pm

The other routine we have is

W 7am
E 7.30-8am
A
S between 11 and 12 as above

Wake 1.5 - 2hours later
E 1-1.30pm
A
E 4.30
A bedtime routine
S 6.30 as long A time in afternoon

She is textbook in every other way and is such a chilled and relaxed baby during the day, not a cry or winge in her.

Once in bed she has a number of dummies and snuggles in bed with her so she can pick one up if she loses one. Last night though she threw them out and the lifted the bumper and was on her knees with her arms through the bars trying to reach them, and that's why she was screaming!

Only 1 NW so that's a big improvement, it "only" took 18 PD and 12 mins the night before was 24 and 25 mins. How sad am I counting like that!!

She has been teething and got 6 in one go including 4 molars and she had a tummy bug and a cold so all of that will have contributed to some of the NW.

DH is more than happy to bath her and put her to bed to give me a slight break, but he caves faster than I do, she's got him wrapped round her little finger!

On the WO, how long do I stand outside for before going back in?

TBH it just helps that I'm not alone. This is all k we to me as she STTN from 3 months and havent had to do any sleep training up till now!

Thanks for you support ZacsMumme and Sabs xx :)

When you say between 11 and 12 do you do it on the A time? Ie 4.5 hrs after WU? I wonder if your LO is UT at nap time then OT at BT or Ut at BT if you do the 30 min nap

I think she s starting the transition from 2:1! Yesterday she had one 2 hour nap and slept from 7-6 with no NW ! I feel like a new person! I think she is definately UT if she has that pm nap as she can easily do 4.5 A, 5 if shes kept really busy. If we go to playgroup she will have her am nap at 12 but then she doesn't have a pm nap.

I don't think she is UT tired at nap time as as soon as she is in the pram or cot she's asleep in minutes.

I think, with the transition it's time to start tweaking  her routine. I just have to play it by ear until she has settled into it and starts to have a good nap. It's so hit and miss at the moment as if she only has 45 mins then she needs that CN, so should I push bedtime back so she is tired?

Thanks again :)
