Tweaking help please..a little bit unsure? x.
« on: January 03, 2012, 12:45:03 pm »
Hiya,

DS will be 2 on the 22nd of January. His old routine was as follows from the age of 1, save the usuall illness/teething drama's:

6am WU

11 to 1pm nap

7pm BT

The above was pretty stable, but of course his nap would sometimes waver by 30 mins or so. I have always been a fan of EBT as Sam has always tacked on, but no so much recently  ::). The problem is that we are now getting an inconsistent WU and I'm pretty sure we are in an UT/OT loop. Every day is different! I have always stuck to set A time to nap and not set nap time when we've had any problems with EBT thrown in.  ATM he is catching up with whopper nights of 12+ and 2 hrs + naps but then getting UT and giving me PD struggles. I have tried increasing his A time to 5.5 hours but 5 hours seem to be so successfull and right for Sam and I'm struggling with that being the right decision, so for the last 5 days I have tried capping his nap at 1.5 hours. He wakes happy but is definetely more tired in the afternoon. The last 3 nights he has gone down at 7pm no problem but has had 5am WU..I do WI/WO and he resettles, but surely this is a sign of OT kicking in  ??? Should I just extend his A time but let him still nap 2 hours  ??? I am also aware that a longer AM A time doesn't always overide a shorter PM for Sam  ::). And as much as I realise it may be inevitable I don't want to push BT out at the moment if possible. The following is what I would like: HA HA  :o

6.30 WU

12 to 2pm nap

7pm BT.

I have a feeling that you will say that his day is too short for an almost 2 year old and 13.5 hours sleep too much (please dont  ;))   :-\ especially since he has been handling a 13 hour day and 6 hours to BT since 1 year old. Something's gotta give hasn't it  :'(. Do you think the above would be better with a 7.30 BT  ???

I await your words of wisdom Ladies  ;) BTW I have always thought Sam is an average sleep needs LO.

Thanks in advance

Vicki.x.

Either do a 730pm bedtime or cut the nap back if you still want a 7pm bedtime.  Yeah, something's got to start giving I'm afraid!  :-*

Thanks Karen

I have let him sleep 2 hours again today and yesterday, last night he did an 11.75 night straight through til 7am. I did 5.5 hours to naptime, then capped at 2 hours and I'm going to extend his day to 7.30 BT PD, then we'll see where it gets us  :-\

Let me know how you get on!  I capped Lewis' nap at 1.5 hours today and woke him at 245pm (he didn't wake up till 8am so went to sleep at 115pm) and I guarantee he won't be asleep much before 8!

Hi again Karen,

Lewis' is very close to Sam's age..are you able to acheive a consistent WU/routine with him ATM  ??? or do you find it changes constantly  ??? do you have set nap time or set A time  ??? or are you flexible. I have a feeling things will always be a little less predicatable now he's almost 2 yrs old.

Thanks Hon

Vicki.

Well sort of ish!  Lol!  I usually enjoy the peace and quiet a bit too much in the afternoons so wake him but bedtime is getting too late.  We loosely do 7am wu, 1-3pm nap and bedtime 8pm.  We've been getting some nap refusal as well though so that's been throwing a spanner in the works!  I have to do set naps because of midday school run for ds1 and pick up for dd!
