Anyone know when it is appropriate to start giving vitamins to your baby?

Hi MM - I EBF, so it may be different, but my ped recommends vit D drops from birth and then a poly-vit containing iron starting at 4 mo (this is different from 3 yrs ago with DD, when iron-rich solids were encouraged starting at 6 mo, so I haven't followed it :P).  If I were you, though, I'd check with your dr first as I *think* formula is fortified with most essentials. You wouldn't want to give too much of a good thing.

Agree with Katie that you need to check in your area.  Different countries have different guidance on this.  In the UK BF babies should have vit drops from 6 months.  Formula fed don't need them as vits are in the milk.  But babies taking less than the guidance formula can/should take them.

Hi!

I it is true that the guidance are different in different countries. In Hungary for example D-vitamin drops are given from birth but in the UK only from 6 months. And I find it rather strange that they don't make a difference between formula fed or EBF babies.
However I found multivitamin drops from WellKid (it's an over the counter medicine) wich is suitable from age 3 months.
Check with your pharmacist if you are not sure but I think your LO is old enough to get vitamins.
