struggling to fit in 4 bottles and 3 solid meals
« on: January 16, 2012, 11:56:57 am »
DD is 7.5 months. She is now on 3 meals (as of 7 months) and doing ok. I am struggling with the morning bottle though.

She does a short am nap and so that means I have to try and get a bottle and solids in before she goes for her second nap. I don't really want to wait until after the nap as it will then impact on her next bottle and am still trying to do milk feeds before solids. Am wondering whether to cut down to 3 bottles as would certainly make life easier.

She has about 7oz first thing and 7-8 before bed. Then the 2 in the middle of the day are anything between 3-6 so I guess she is still getting enough but it seems silly making up this 11am feed for her to only drink 3-4 oz of it.

What do you think?

She is a bit on the young side to be dropping to 3 bottles really - that's usually around 10 months. She needs the milk more than the solids at this age and not all babies are on 3 meals by now. If fitting milk and solids in is tricky I would do milk as late as you can before her nap so she is a bit hungrier and takes more, and maybe leave the lunchtime solids for a while longer until her A time stretches a bit or the first nap lengthens and you have more time to fit them both in.

What do you think?

I guess so. I was hoping she would be able to fit in 3 meals by now - seems most of the other babies iRL and also on the 7-9 month boards are managing it but you are right, milk is more important.

Becky - my DD didn't add her 3 meal of solids in until 8.5 months of age and even then, it wasn't much until closer to 10 months of age...

we moved to three bottles around 8.5 months and intake went up slightly :)

thanks kara - I do want to go to 3 bottles but my BW voice tells me not to yk ;)

Atm she is struggling to take the 2 middle bottles and that is even without lunch most days. She will take about 4oz happily and then I try and get her to take another 1 or 2 if i can.

We're still only on 2 meals becky... breakfast and dinner for us... I am HOPING (although i haven't done the maths or full planning) that i can add a consistent lunch at about the same time that i drop a feed... i thought that might make more sense?

I would consider doing what Katy is doing with Hamish... I would skip the lunch meal for now and get her milk intake back up and stable, then slowly intro that middle meal again when you are ready to move the 3 bottles ;)
