The weaning plan & peaches!
« on: February 12, 2012, 10:43:00 am »
Hi!

I am probably being really dumb, but i just wanted to check.... this week my LO in moving on to peaches as her 'new food of the week' as per the BW weaning plan. Should I cook the peaches as i do the pears, or just puree them uncooked. I wasn't sure whether uncooked fruit at 7months is too much for lo's tummies?

All views/advice etc welcome!!

Thanks so much in advance, and sorry for being such a dummy!!!  ::)

I cooked them as i did the apple and pears with DD1 to make a puree.  DD2 though did more baby led weaning and ate loads of fruit early on without being cooked and was fine.   So i think either way is fine!

I think you can offer it uncooked- unless it's a hard peach that will go lumpy or something... then you could microwave it, or poach it to soften it up! My guy is doing BLW too- but eats heaps of fruit uncooked no problems! Good luck- How exciting to be eating something as lovely as a peach for the very first time!

Thanks guys! I tried the baby led weaning rather unsuccessfully. DD is just not bothered!! I think I'll try again when she's 8months or so and able to manage finger foods.

Thanks again and until the next post!!!

Offer uncooked (ideal as a finger food) if really ripe, unlikely at this time of year or skin, stew and puree.  Alternatively why not try poaching them in fruit juice?

Btw I tried poaching some peaches (I got some reduced in my shop this week but they were still hard like bullets), they didn't look very good so not going on the blog but I poached them in water, vanilla extract and honey (don't use honey for under 1s, use some fruit juice or just water instead) and they were delicious!

Thanks I poached them in the end - she doesn't seem keen and they seem to be causing her to struggle to poo????
