Breastfeeding and solids
« on: February 22, 2012, 01:15:32 am »
My DD is 5 1/2 months old. We tried starting solids a month ago and she loved them, but stopped because was not breastfeeding as well. I called the dr and they said to wait a month then try the solids again. We started again with oatmeal cereal last night. She usually eats 8-9 min on each breast but today has been doing 5-6. I don't want to wean her until she is a year old. Is this normal?

I would not be guided by time tbh, what I used to do after my lo had fed was hand express a drop and the creamier it was the more I'd figured he had.  Bf times can vary loads depending on mood, tiredness etc.

That said it would be weird if your child didn't start to replace some of the nutrition from breastmilk with solids, just the idea is not to do it too much or too quickly.

Do you feed on demand or follow easy? What is your current routine?
