Bed Time for a month old baby?
« on: February 22, 2012, 13:59:15 pm »
I have a question about bed time for my month old baby. She has been sleeping really well at night - has actually cut out her night feeds - can go from dream feed at 10:30 until 7 am - but problem is sometimes has a rough time going to sleep after dream feed. I think the problem is that she is overtired, as am not really getting her to sleep before the dream feed. Often times she fusses through the evening, then sometimes she goes down no problem after dream feed, and sometimes she takes two hours! I have never tried to put her down before 830 - is my problem that she should be going to bed earlier and that's why she is so fussy? Am just paranoid that if I put her down too early, she won't sleep through the night later.

Hello and welcome, can you post your EASY?  Getting up time and naps will have an effect on her bedtime.

Good point! This is a rough outline of her usual day: She is pretty textbook during day but late day and evening is off.
7am wake and eat
830 Sleep
10 Eat
1130 Sleep
1 Eat
230 Sleep
4 Eat
This is where things get wonky
Usually at this time she gets sleepy around 5/530 and sometimes could sleep until 7 - which stresses me because so close to what is supposed to b bedtime! So this time varies could be anywhere from half hour pf sleep to an hour and a half - with me sometimes waking her
7 Eat
730 Bath
Anywhere from 830 on we have tried to put her down - she often drifts off for half an hour but then wakes and fusses until dream feed - sometimes settles after df - sometimes takes a long time to settle after df!
We have tried cluster feeding - but didnt work and not necessary since she goes from 1030 until 7am.

Hi there.
Your LO is very very young and IMO it's hard to tweak when babies are that young, but I will try to help.
IIWY I would do the 5ish nap a CN, so a 45min one, which will bring you, let's say, to 17:45. Then you could have a BT at around 19 and that way not have OT (if that is really the reason for her not settling at BT).
You need to weigh the two things - either leave it like this and you know she sleeps certain hours or have BT earlier and perhaps have a NF (which will be more than normal at that age, even two would be normal). But I can only tell you what I would do, and that would be an earlier BT, because I would like to know that LO is sleeping enough hours at night, rather than having a long stretch.
