DH has been feeding 6.5 mo during night wakings!!!
« on: February 25, 2012, 19:53:43 pm »
And I just found out today.  I recently went back to work and DH and I agreed to do two nights on and 2 nights off as our DD was still waking only sometimes around 11pm and 5am.  Apparently, my hubby has been feeding her at the 11pm and 5 am when it's his night on.  HELP!  Her schedule is completely messed up and I don't know how to get her back on track.  She was EBF until 4.5 months and now formula fed.  She also has reflux but we've had that under control since she was about 8 weeks.  She began STTN at 8.5 weeks and began have night wakings at 5 months.  Her EASY schedule looks like this

Wakes between 7:10 and 7:30am - won't take a bottle immediately first thing (probably bc hubby has been feeding her at 5) so lately we've been doing a bit of A first.  We're also just now moving from the 3 hour to 4 hours bet bottles bc of her reflux

A from wake up until 8
E 8am
A 8:20-9:30
S 9:45 -11:30
E 11:45
A 12-1:45
S 2-3:15
E 3:30
A 3:35-5
S cat nap from 5/5:15 -6
A 6-7:30
E 7:30
E 8:15 cluster feed
8:30 bed

What are we doing wrong (other than the obvious?)  Is my EASY okay?  I know it's not perfect but we've had to be flexible given her reflux.

I should also note that we've tried the DF and it does not work for us.

Hi AdelynsMommy,
My husband did the exact same thing.  My son is almost 7 months old.  He also has reflux and DF doesn't work for us.
I noticed that he wakes up earlier if I do the DF.  How much milk is your LO taking at every feed?
I am not sure how to go backwards anymore.
I hope you find some answers.

Hi Susan,
Thank you so much.  DD wakes up earlier with DF too!  She's been taking anywhere between 4-6 oz at every feeding.  We have been trying to incorporate solids but only do so if she's on track to consume 24+ ounces so right now, usually around 5:45 or 6.  She will usually consume between 24-28 ounces per day plus the solids in the evening.  I don't know if the solids are maybe giving her a tummy ache at night and maybe I should try earlier in the day?  I may attempt that this week.  DH will be out of town on business this week so hoping to get back on track.  I know he had the best intentions but just doesn't have the patience of a Mommy.

There seem to be a TON of experienced BW Mom's on this site so hoping to get some answers too.  Is your LO still waking during the night?

Hi Adelyn's mommy,

Did you try to increase your Dd's milk intake during the day?  I did that with my son and now he only takes on nf instead of two.
Your routine looks exactly like mine.  Except, we are off track with E with Sleep.  My son eats solids 3x/day.  Breakfast, lunch and
dinner.  Did you try gripe water before bed at bath time.  That seemed to REALLY help my son's stomaches at night.
Hugs

Hi Susan,
I've tried to increase her intake but she won't budge.  Clenched her little mouth shut and shakes her head....she's a strong willed little miss.  I haven't tried Gripe Water in quite a while but it's probably worth revisiting....thanks for the suggestion! We're trying to work up to increasing solids but somedays, she's just not interested.

I'll keep trying!  DH is on duty tonight and has been given very strict instructions...fingers crossed that it goes well!  I will prob be up too to make sure he doesn't cave ;). we've had luck in the past with w2s so we may need to give that another go...

Take care,
Ashley

Hi Ashley,
I hope your night was better.  We had a miracle last night.  We were out of home to my sister's house for dinner.  My son cried at 8PM for his dinner time.  We rushed home at 9 gave him bath, milk and sleep by 10PM.  So according the BW book I thought gosh we are in for bad night.  But guess what, he slept until 6:15AM this morning.  I gave him bottle and he only took 3 oz.  he wasn't even hungry.  So I'm thinking, you can try what I did yesterday.
Cook some quick oatmeal (grinding, my son doesn't eat any bits), in clarified or u nsalted butter, for a minute and ahdd some homo milk.  It will look like pudding.  Make sure you stir it frequently, while boiling/cooking it.  Feed her this as dinner 3 hrs before bedtime, than 5 oz milk 1.5 hr later and another 4 oz before bed time.  I plan to do the exact same thing tonight.  Will report tomorrow the outcome.
I am east indian, so my mom use to feed us clarified butter (unsalted, full fat not the junk stuff) before bed.  We are 6 brothers and sisters.
About milk intake, try to increase her feed by 0.5 oz every other day, do that one feed let say work on bedtime feed.
Ashley are you aware of black cardamom, we use it in chai, to prevent any throw ups, or diahrea.  Boil one cardamom in 1 litre of water, boil until only half the water left in pot, use that water for formula.  I don't give medication to my son, his reflux was horrible, I was washing the sheets almost everyday.
I hope something helps.
