9 month old refusing food I'm going crazy!
« on: March 01, 2012, 05:35:54 am »
HELP!!!

Despite being hungry my LO is refusing most of the billions of items I am trying to feed him.  He usually is a great eater so this is very stressful for me.
I worked out that he's ready for finger foods but he's not even tasting what I am offering him.  He picks it up (palmer grab) and squishes it or drops it over side of high chair.  In pure frustration I have ended meal times but then he cries and cries from hunger.  One meal he may like something but doesn't want it for the next meal.

Here's what I tried today the following; (didn't even attempt to taste it)

- rice cakes (dissolve in mouth) - LOVED them
- Egg - threw it
- roasted and steamed zucchini sticks - threw it
- banana - squished it and threw it
- tomato - had 1/2 of the serving and threw it
- cucumber - threw it
- shredded chicken - threw it
- roasted pumpkin and sweet potato sticks - threw it
- plum - threw it
- lentil sticks - squished it and threw it
- tofu - ate some, then threw it
- mashed veggie combos - refused altogether
- avocado - refused altogether
- yoghart - ate some

PLEASE I AM UP for hours and hours cooking and cooking only for him not to eat it.  I am burnt out.

{{{hugs}}}  Sounds like he's not too sure about feeding himself.  He seems very curious about the new foods, but hasn't grasped that it's nutrition and not a new toy.  Will he still let you feed him?  Maybe step back from the finger foods a bit.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

Thanks for your reply. He now only lets me feed him food that is from a processed squeeze packet container.  My food is much tastier but he won't even attempt to eat it.

I was sooo against processed foods but otherwise he won't eat anything.  Tomorrow I am going to cut open a packet and fill it with my own food, see if that works.  Unlikely, as he probably prefers seeing it squeezed out.

I'm not worried about his speech development if he is only eating runny foods.

Hi,

Hopefully you will find that this is just a phase! My LO did the same thing around that age and stopped eating anything I had lovingly prepared in favour of jars or pouches. I just went with it TBH. As you say, try some of your food out of one of the jars!

As for finger foods, just try a small selection every day - no point stressing and making loads if he will just throw it.

Good Luck x
