Baby not hungry :(
« on: March 07, 2012, 10:56:27 am »
Hi everyone :)

I've posted something along similar lines before, but I'm really worried about one of my twins. For just over a week now he's not been interested in his milk or solids. He used to drain 4 7oz bottles a day plus breakfast and dinner. But now he just isn't interested. I suspect teeth as he has rosy cheeks and seems to be rubbing them when he is drinking and also biting his fingers. But my question is should he still be off his food after more than a week? I'm struggling to get 12oz a day into him plus a couple of spoonfuls of solids. I've been to the docs and he said he is otherwise healthy but didn't really have any suggestions other than feed little and often which I am now doing. I've tried calpol and teething gel before feeds but makes no difference. Im just worried as he looks like he's losing weight already poor thing. How long do teething episodes last for?

Thank you,
Sarah xx
Sarah :)

If it is teeth and meds aren't working you may just have to ride it out. Every baby is really different with solids, some don't go off food at all whilst for some it has a big impact.

I would probably take him back to the Dr and get him checked again - did the Dr check his ears and throat? Even if he did it's worth checking in case he has developed a throat or ear infection since the last check.

Thanks Laura, I was going to take him back tomorrow if he was no better but he has just drained a full bottle before bed so I'm hoping things are improving. Hes been a bit happier in himself today too. The Dr did check his ears and throat though.

The joys of being a Mum - always worrying!

Thanks,
Sarah

Indeed - another one of those things they don't warn you about ;)

I hope things improve now!
