That is craziness about the pump situation!!

Shields definitely have their place.  I don't think I was using them right as they actually made me more sore as DD couldn't latch onto them (too big!)

Phew, happy update! My new funnel arrived today (Amazing Amazon, thank you) - its perfect. I can't believe I've been using the wrong one all this time and not got more sore.

I got some nipple shields and tried pumping with them, but guess what - they were too small!! I don't have huge BBs but obviously am large in the nips dept :P but actually the new funnel works so well that it's not too sore to pump without them. I did leave the pump on low though so took a while and there was alot to get out.

A lesson in making sure your pump fits properly - maybe worth a sticky?

Ah, glad it's all arrived and you can start to heal properly now.

The suggestion for a larger flange is mentioned in this FAQ - http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=63603.0 - but thanks for the suggestion :)

Well cancel that - we're back to square one - its moved the sore patch to further up  - I'm at a complete loss. I'll just have to hang on until tomorrow and go back and see my lovely ladies at the BF clinic again. I just cant' pump - I@m also going to ask/request that they let me start trying to feed Beth - if she is allowed to have bottles, why can't she nurse?

So many hugs sweetie. I know there's such agony watching blood come out of your nipples.

I've read the whole thread and don't have much more to offer except pumping alternate sides. I totally get the frustration. Even with an oversupply I I could only get 3oz out and then my bbs just quit and it was excruciating.

Also wanted to suggestbsome Dr Jacks All Purpose Nipple Ointment. You're pretty high risk to develop thrush with the constant cracks you have and it may prevent that from happening. There is also some pain Meds in it that will help with the pain.

I'm so sorry you're going through this on top of everything else going on. I hope they let you bf her. Maybe if you let them know what's going on and how it will help you both they might be more likely to go for it.

More hugs sweetie. Hope this passes for.you soon.

This might sound like a stupid question, but are you making totally sure your nipples are central inside the flange and you've not got the pump set too high?  Sorry it's hard :(

Hi H, I've just seen this. I've done the bleeding scaby nips with S and a poor latch and I totally understand the misery. Have you tried hand expressing in the bath? Lean forward in the warm water and express away. It helped me no end at the height of misery, as well as being quite amusing!

I hope they let her on you soon. xxx

Haven't tried the bath Marsha, have been using the shower up until now but am trying to keep the milk now as I'm off the cold meds.

Amanda - there are no silly questions! I try to keep it central. But I had another theory today. I would normally sterilise in a steam steriliser at home. The other difference atm is sterilising in fluid - I wonder if its the sterilising fluid that's causing the problem - I'll make sure to rinse properly and really clean it off, although that partially defeats the point.

BUT, I got to BF my little baby girl tonight - yay!! Only a small one, and she didn't take much (well don't think there was much tbh!) but its a start, and means that tomorrow we can keep going and try to get back to normal. She was nice and gentle too, so hopeful that we'll be past the worst and I can leave the pump for a while and let the nips heal.

Awww I'm glad you have been allowed to feed her again. Even a tiny feed will help your supply and give your BB's a break!

Expressing underwater is really good for easing pain and clearing pus and scabs :-X I wish you a speedy recovery from here on in. x

So glad you got to feed her last night!  Yay!  I guess the sterilising fluid could be an issue.  :-\

Oh how annoying.  I've got some other sizes here, but I would imagine Mr Amazon would get to you faster than my efforts at going to the post office!!
