10 wks late bedtime?
« on: March 09, 2012, 18:07:39 pm »
Hi,
I had a quick question. At some point searching this forum I came across an EASY routine where the baby was going to bed at 10pm and then the bedtime was slowly shifted earlier and earlier. Any ideas where that might be found?

My 10wk old seemed to be doing much better with a late bedtime (bed around 10pm, only waking once at 3-4, then waking for the day at 6:30-7). But suddenly she's waking much more at night and I think it's because of OT? If you know of the example I'm talking about and can point me in that direction, that would be great. It was in one of the main posts for examples to follow from what I remember.
Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know of a routine like that. 22 would seem rather late for me and I think you shouldn't only look at the number of NW, but at the total amount of sleep at night if she goes to bed at 22 or at 19 (just as an example).
If you'd like you could post your EASY and we can have a look if we can see what causes the NW.

Ok, well, here was yesterday's:
I think one of my problems may be a lack of bedtime routine. It seemed like from 6 on was kind of a wash as far as getting her consistent so in order to keep myself sane, I let her hang around in my sling in the evening and go in and out of sleep. I keep the feedings the same time though. She's just so unpredictable at night...I think I need to just buckle down and get her to bed by 8. I try to stick to a 7am start, then 10am then 1am, 3:30pm, 6pm 8pm 10pm. Yesterday she had an EW so things were shifted a bit:

E 6:30 (she had woken at 6:20 and wouldn't resettle)
A 6:30-7:45 (1hr 15mins)
S 7:45-9:45 (had to resettle 2x)
E 9:50
A 9:50-10:50 (1hr)
S 10:50-12:45 (1hr 55mins - spent last 20mins on me)
E 12:45
A 12:45-1:45 (1hr)
S 1:45-3:30 (1 hr 45mins)
E 3:30
A 3:30-4:30 (1hr)
S 4:30-5:30 (1hr - on a walk, wouldnt resettle so she had more A time)
A 5:30-6
E 6pm
A 6-6:30 (short because of prior additional A time)
S 6:30-8
E 8pm (we've tried to put down after the 8pm feed before but she's never tired enough)
A 8-9:15
S 9:15 (bed)
E 10pm DF
S back to bed
E 2am (this has been a new NW time the last 3 days. It's usually 3:30/4)
S back to bed
E 4:45 (tried resettling first w/o feed but was hungry)
S back to bed

E 6:30 for EW ( woke at 6:15 and wouldn't go back down like she used to)

I guess a part of my difficulty is that our lifestyle doesn't always offer the best consistency in the evenings to establish a bedtime routine. i.e., we have a weekly mtg in our home from 7-10pm, as well as a few other evening obligations. I don't go to all the meetings for my DD's sake and not wanting her to get too stimulated, but I also don't want to sit at home every night. Thoughts? Thanks.

Hi there,
If you want to search for old posts you can go to google advanced search.
In the site/domain option put in the babywhisperer site from your address bar.
Then put in your words to search for ie 'gradually moving bedtime forward' and search ;)

Here is one I found... http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=108974.0;wap2 as an example.

DH and I had the same problem when Alon was born as we lived in a community where most meetings (like admin, culture, health, etc.) took place in the evening. I am not saying you need to do the same, but something got to give, iykwim. We simply took turns, he went to some and I went to the others. I know it's a certain sacrifice, but having children is one already :) Just my opinion.

IIWY I would have done the 6:30 nap a CN, would wake her up and then do a BT routine. Like you said, consistency is a key there.
You can have a look here how others do it, just as examples: http://babywhispererforums.com/index.php?topic=164027.0

Thanks! Yes, I've been doing the cluster routine (feed at 6, 8 and 10). I attempt for her to go down at 7/7:15 after bath. She usually wakes at 8 on her own when i do that. then i try to put her right back down after the 8 feed. But many times she doesn't go down. Last night she didn't sleep til 10 again...I'll keep trying. Thank again.
