I need more advice. My sons NW?
« on: March 09, 2012, 19:30:26 pm »
My son is taking long naps now.
He tks 2, 1.5 naps or so and still cn a 3rd nap.
I need a little more help figuring out what can be going wrong tht now his night sleep is off n nvr really has been. Naps were more my issue. This was his easy more or less for sometime, so I'm thrown:

E: 7
A:
S: by 8:10-8:15

E: 11
A:
S: by 12-12:30

E: 3
A:
S: by 4 or so (cn)

Bt...evn w ebt of 6:30-7:30 ...still ew and NOW having several NW.

I have gradually tried to extend his A time after his first nap. (first WU, he prefers short- couldn't bump w.o getting a short nap- which the last 2 days, evn though I still pd at same time, he's short napping again 20-30mins) I have been able to extend about 10mins, but he ends up ot after his nap evn if it's a long one? So evn after these long naps, he still wakes ot? And ew n NW evn w good day sleep?

He may be teething but nothing cutting though yet, but I doubt it bc he's sleeping well in the day. No props or ap w him, what can be going on tht it's all off w nights now? Last night he woke at 11-3-4-5 up at 6:30? I tried feeds thinking maybe growth spurt, he won't eat it, only one, his usual.

Do you think it could be a GS or developmental?
Have you tried medicating at NW too see if it helps?

I think you really need to up his A time.

which the last 2 days, evn though I still pd at same time, he's short napping again 20-30mins)

With him starting to short nap again, he is telling you he needs more A time to sleep longer. 1hr 10 A time is extremely low for 6 months first thing and this could actually be contributing to your EW.  If babies don't get a proper A time first thing they can begin to see nap 1 as an extension of their night sleep so he would need at least 1.45/2 hours first thing for that not to be an issue.

EW and NWs at this age are most often a sign that a LO needs more A time and are moving toward dropping their CN.  I would advise you to start extending his A time gradually and keep the CN initially until they are upped.  What happens if they aren't getting enough A time in the day they start to wake at night and EW to make up for it.

Often at this age they can give tired cues when they are used to napping and need you to help them manage the extra A time by changing the scenery and helping them get to nap time.

I agree with shiv, I know you have struggled to get good naps and to up A times, but at this age they really start to wake up and need more A during the day to sleep well at night

Hi hun!

Sorry to see that things have come off the rails a bit again!

I agree with Shiv and Sara - he needs an increase again.  I know it seems so soon after the last push, but honestly, they really do start to jump by leaps and bounds at this age... DD went from 2 hrs at 4 months to 3 hrs at 5.5 months.. then lept all the way to 4 hrs by 9 months...
