new night wakings after starting 4 hour
« on: March 13, 2012, 14:55:52 pm »
hi, mY dd IS 3.5months and we have just switched her to a 4 hour routine due to short naps which is going well as far as E time goes.  she easily goes 4hours between feeds and can manage well the longer A times and now I am usually able to get her back to sleep at the 45min mark during naps.  My question is about night.  We stopped her DF at 11weeks as she was only taking 1oz EBM and she has been sleeping 7-7since until last week when she started the 4 hour.  It seems every other night now she is waking at some point unable to settle except with a little feed either at 11:30,12:30 or 2 so not consistent times.  I am wondering if you think the 4 hour schedule has somehow messed up her night sleep or what could be the issue.  I relaly don't want to get in the habit of feeding her in the night again as then she does not want to drink much in the morning.  Thoughts??  She is breastfed and our day is as follows
E-7am
A
S-9-11 (wakes in the middle and usually successful in getting back to sleep)
E-11
A
S-1ish or 2 hours from wake up time of other nap again wake sin middle of nap
E-3
A
S-5-5:30or 5:45
A-floor time / bath
E-6:30 or 6:45
S-7 for the night

Do you think I should decrease the CN?  Just thinking maybe that A time befroe bed is not long enough...

Have you tried settling without feeding?
I personally think that NF is still very normal for babies her age, especially if BF. I know that she didn't use to do it till now and STTN, but I don't think there is something "wrong" with her waking at night.
However, she is still young for a 4h EASY and might will be better on 3.5h. It could be that 4h is too much for her and she is waking up hungry at night because she didn't get enough during the day.
I personally wouldn't change the CN, she might get OT at BT, and I think she might be ok on a little less A time than what she is having now. How long after she falls asleep she wakes up and needs settling during a nap? If it's 30-35min then she is probably OT.

hi, we did do 3.5 hour for a few days and then led to her taking less at her BT feed as she was not as hungry so went to the 4 hour.  she is only waking at 45mins during naps so not OT but I don't think UT either just maybe a habit she needs to get out of.  Before increasing the A time we were unable to get her back down at 45min but now with the paci we can usually resettle her.  Last night se woke at 2ish and we did try resettling but finally fed her after 3as she would only settle in 20min intervals.  I might try just giving her a little extra feed hout after she normally eats to try and get a few extra ozs in during the day.

I am not sure this is the case with you, but she might need 4h between feeds and 3.5 of A+S. So your EASY would look like EASAE.
It can well may be that the 45min is developmental and most babies manage to go through sleep cycles themselves at around 6 months.
It still sounds to me that it's hunger if she wakes up every 20min and is ok after a feed.
