Formula fed 8.5-week old - ready to go to 3.5 hour EASY?
« on: March 14, 2012, 14:28:28 pm »
My 8.5 week old LO is not eating well AT ALL and it is beginning to
drive me a little batty.

Currently, she eats every 3 hours, with a cluster feed in the
evening.  She used to eat well, generally, averaging around 3.5-4.5
ounces per feed.  Now that I think about that, those feds were before
we introduced the cluster feeding (about a week ago, almost by
mistake).

For instance she ate in the MOTN last night at 3:45 a.m. and ate 3
oz., she then ate at 7:00 a.m., 2.5 oz, and just now at 10:00 a.m.,
ONLY 1 oz.  She will get extremely angry when you continue trying to
feed her.

Should I try transitioning to a 3.5 hour routine?  Maybe even a 4?
She is exclusively formula fed and has had reflux issues.  Could this
possibly be reflux?  I have not heard any gurgling, etc., and she is
not spitting up.

HELP, please!

I would think it's more reflux related. My DD went from taking good feeds to halving them at about 9 weeks. How is the reflux being treated?

Right now, it is not being treat with medication.

Did your LO spit-up at this point?  My daughter is not.

I fed her at 12:25 p.m. and she ate 4.5 oz.

My two were both silent refluxers for the most part, they had periods of bringing milk back up but mostly it was silent. When my DD was about 9 weeks she started refusing feeds after the first 2oz (not every feed but the majority) and could go 4+ hours on 2oz if I let her. She would scream, arch, cry and just refuse any more milk but would take the teat as if she was hungry. She slept well and napped fine but as I said in the last post she went from taking 5-6oz at every feed to 2 -3oz.

We had already been through reflux with DS, so got her seem ASAP and once she was on a reflux formula things settled for a short while, then she needed meds as well.

I would take her to see the Dr, it sounds like she may need something to help her now.

Thankfully, she has her 2 month visit tomorrow!  I will be chatting with our doctor about this.

Thank you!

I wanted to let everyone know what has been going on.

I moved LO to a 3.5 hour EASY and she had done WONDERFUL!!!  Sleeping is great, eating is great...wonderful, wonderful!  Yay!

This is what her EASY looks like:
7:00 a.m. - eat/activity
8:00-10:30 a.m. - sleep
10:30 a.m. - eat/activity
11:30 a.m.-1:30/2:00 p.m. - sleep
1:30/2:00 p.m. - eat/activity
2:30/3:00 - 5:00 p.m. - sleep
5:00 p.m. - eat/activity
6:00 - 6:45 p.m. - sleep
7:00 p.m. - bedtime routine...bath, bottle, and bed (she is generally asleep by 7:45 p.m.)
MOTN feeding anywhere between 2:00 - 5:00 a.m.
