Sippy cup (water) in the cot at night
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:45:16 am »
Does anyone do this? How (and at what age) did you teach your LO to find it and not spill it everywhere in the night???

F has been waking at least once in the night recently, but often if I offer her cup she'll take a big drink and go straight back to sleep. So wondering if she's just thirsty - I always have a bottle of water beside me and have a drink if I wake, as it's so hot atm.

I use spill proof sippy cups in their beds and they have had them since we stopped doing bedtime milk at about 1 or so. DD2 rarely drinks from hers but DD1 always drinks when she wakes in the night.

I think mine had one in with them from about 15-18mo... only because they were winter babies, so it took until that time for them to be in the warmer months.
If you put it in the same spot & guide her hand to it at the night wakings she should work it out.

I'll give it a go tonight. We have a cup that's *meant* to be spill-proof, but F manages to spill it...  and I've never seen them here so can't get another. But it's worth a shot. If she does spill a little I expect it'll be dry in no time anyway!

We still keep a anti spill drinking bottle (with the spout for the normal milk bottle) next to DS' pillow.  We had to remind him to always put it at a certain spot, like at the inside corner of the cot, etc and remind him and ask if he could find it at that particular spot when he called us for water.  Took a few times but he got the hang of it and would put it at that same spot after drinking.

Katy: mid 30s during the day, down to maybe mid-high 20s in the early hours of the morning. And sticky. She goes to bed around 7pm so it's still pretty hot for a good few hours after that.

I was also wondering if I could find a sippy bottle that might work...will hunt around. She's gone to bed tonight with the cup in the corner of the cot though, we'll see if she wakes wanting it, and if so if I can talk her through finding it :P

We do this too and started at around 12 months. I often hear him drinking in the night. I use this cup http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Safe-Sippy-Cup-Pink/dp/B003XNFT7A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333028882&sr=8-1 and it has never spilled or leaked.
