Need serious help with sleep!!!!
« on: March 29, 2012, 15:21:16 pm »
Today is my son's bday...he is finally 1!  From the beginning, people told us(my gf and I) that my son sleep throughout the night at 6, months, 8 months, 10 months, etc.  We are at one year and it hasn't gotten better.  He is not an independent sleeper at all!  When i try to put him in the crib, he crawls around it thinking it's a game.  He sleeps in our bed sometimes, but he constantly tosses and turns like he's completely uncomfortable.  I tried the PU/PD method last night and although it didn't put him to sleep, i got a sense that he was reacting differently when being picked up.  when i lay him down in his crib, he automatically turns to his belly, then to his knees, and then stands up!  What sorta advice do you guys have for a father that needs to catch up on sleep...BADLY!

PS - my girl is FOR the CiO method and I'm against it(another story altogether).

what a cutie he is!

At BW we do not condone any form of CIO or CC as Tracy Hogg, the BW'er believed it broke the trust between parent and child. There are more gently forms of sleep training we can help you with.

Please could you post his routine in EAS format and we can take a look. I need to see what time he wakes in the morning, when he naps and bedtime and if you put meals in too.

thanks

Thanks for the input.  Im fairly new to understanding the EASY method, but feel that we do that now.
E-wakes up at 6, eat by 630
A-plays with toys until 930
S-naps from 930-1130
Y-930-1130
E-12pm lunch
A-play time
S-330-5PM
y-330-5pm
E-530-6pm=dinner
A-plays with family-630-8
S-shower at 8 and in bed by 830PM
Y

**We live in a one bedroom apt and the upstairs neighbors aren't necessarily loud, but the floors are terrible and there tends to be lots of squeaking sound. Therefore, my son wakes up about 3-6 times a night!!!

ok, well he is napping a lot for his age and I think that may be part of the problem. 3.5 hours day sleep is quite a bit for his age and I would cut that back.
It means his day is long and his night is short and really we want more night sleep at this age.
So, I would cap the first nap at 1 hour and then bring the second nap forward which will mean an earlier bedtime.
A - 6am
Nap - 9.30-10.30am
Nap - 2-3.30pm
Bedtime - 7.30pm
Or if you prefer you could allow 1.5 hours in the am and then cap the pm nap to 45 mins/1 hour.
For the squeaking have you tried white noise??
What do you think?
