New Curtains...

So today I brought some new curtains for Megan, took down the tin foil, and allowed light into my house for the first time in quite a while  .

It looked lovely  .

Just posting here to say 'fingers crossed', to a bunch of ladies who understand  .

There is a white blackout blind behind, but it isn't very effective. The curtains are plum coloured, so nice and dark, but with quite thin lining. Plenty of options to make it darker if needed as TBH I am DONE with tin foil. It makes for rather unimpressive home decor  .

Actually Megan fussed when we changed her 'window' and was rather shocked. I don't think she realised it was a window  .

About time she had a little room of her own I think  , rather than a dark unisex baby den!!

Liz, how funny, we did the same this week! I didn't think DS would notice but he keeps saying thanks for his new curtain...then come bedtime he complains that it is too bright   We removed the Baa Baa blind which was a big black wall of darkness hammered all around his window and put up a roll-blind that is a black-out...it allows about a millimeter of light in all around and his room has gone from pitch-black to "I can sort-of-see-my-hands-in-front-of-my-face" dark and he complains. I ended up having to tape the blind to the window frame so it is black again but that defeats the purpose of being able to open the blind in the daytime and let it be normal in his room!!

Fingers are crossed and lots of vibes that Megan goes for it much better than my stinker has!! xxx

I am embarrassed to confess here that we, too, finally put up curtains last week since we moved in November.  I used bin bags .

Fingers crossed for you, liz. We still haven't got to that point yet - every time I have tried to move away from the cave decor we end up with ews and then they get really ot. We are moving the girls to a new room soon and they are going to be using it to play in too so I am going to have to find a way of getting some proper blackout which we can take away during the day.

I'm sure we will get the June EWs regardless because of the silly birds! I am certainly done with white noise as well - and so are the kids  .

I hope it will be OK as she doesn't nap in a proper dark room anymore - my Mum leaves her curtains half open as she says she settles easier chatting to her bedtime friends. She also has a night light as well (to help her find her 48 bedtime friends in the dark  ).

I do have a baa baa black out blind which I will use I I have too - but the foil is over! I'm sure my neighbour who is trying to sell her house next door will appreciate it too.

Actually Clare - you can order custom made blinds with suckers on over the Internet. Not too pricey as they are quite a crude thing anyway iyswim?

O still has a blackout blind and curtains, haven't done tinfoil but this is the first year I'm a little more relaxed about a bit of light coming in.

I'm planning on taking down Spencer's foil this spring!  I am going to construct a blackout layer with velcro and a curtain panel to go right on the window frame but at least it will just look like curtains from the street and I will be able to use the window. Spencer has no idea there is a window in her room as it is covered in wall to wall heavy curtains.

I have a piece of blackout lining cut to a bit bigger than the size of the window for some overlap.  I have sewn a length of velco to the top, then the corresponding piece is stuck to the window frame - velcro on and off at night etc.  Worked well. 

andrew doesn't understand why it's still light when he goes to bed - but he also doesn't like the blackout - guess that what comes from being 5 in 6 weeks time.

I like to refer to it as Spencer's "womb"...total darkness, white noise with a heartbeat sound, only thing missing is the weightlessness of floating in amniotic fluid!

LOL Heidi - that's pretty extreme!  Though, I do have a loud ticking clock in DD's room because I read somewhere that a clock mimics momma's heartbeat and I was trying to make the transition from our bed to her own room very smooth!

I know...the littlest bit of light used to catch her attention at nap time and she would just stare and stare and not sleep...I used to keep a roll of black hockey tape on her dresser to patch up the foil job as I shh/patted her.  Lately she even wants her white noise cranked louder.  I must say, when I have a migraine I go in her room to rest, it is quite nice!

Good luck Liz - we're not sooo extreme here until the summer months/clock change. Until this year we've had blackout blind material stuck to the windows with suckers ( kind of a home made Baa Baa blind) all summer - DS's room is the main one that let's light into the hallway upstairs, so used to naff me off big time. but it's also east facing so gets blasted with full daylight from 4am in the summer.

This year we finally got round to putting up a blackout roller blind and the blackout material has been converted into linings for the curtains. So double blackout, so far so good, he's waking up about 30/45 mins later each morning so there is hope!!!

She woke at 7.30am (after a late bedtime and a short nap - we relax routines at the weekend now for quality family time). So far so good.

Imagine how lovely her room will be after some fresh air today. I'm going to open a window  .
