need a little advice on SA
« on: April 03, 2012, 11:40:25 am »
From time to time Alyssa goes through some SA at bt. She wants me to stay in her room until she falls asleep and as she falls asleep she will call out for me to make sure I am still there. If I leave before she falls asleep she begins to cry.  The SA begins when she has a cold (understandable), but when she begins to feel better she still needs  my presence. It has been taking her a longer time to fall asleep due to this. Also, some nws have been occurring!! I am sure OT is building up now!

any advice/tips? Do I need to ride this out?
I normally just sit in the rocking chair and shush her there. I was thinking of moving to the door next!
she is 19.5 months.

I get this too with L when she's teething (like now). I do what you do pretty much and am trying to use GW but it's v slow.

Hope to speed it up a bit once teething is over (it's her last 4 molars now).

I did try moving from being next to her cot to by the door, but it was too big a jump for her (esp while still teething) so I'm going to take it more gradually than that.

Funny thing is, she can still settle independently most of the time when DH does BT but with me she wants me to stay. It's always like this - she seems to need me more than DH when something is up but can sort herself out on her own if she knows I'm not an option. Bit frustrating really. Do you get this too?

It seems to be a very slow process this time. Normally, she only does this when she has a cold and bounces right back once she feels better.
She is doing it with both hubby and myself. Strange!! :-\

sleep has become broken and it seems like her routine is off now b/c of this. sigh

We've been going through some SA, and I moved back towards the door, to in the doorway, to in the hallway, to doorway partially closed, to can't see me and reassure with voice. Now I've moved to shhhh instead of voice. I hope this ends soon!
I know GW didn't really work with DD1, so I just had to do one awful night of WIWO and then it was fine. It's the opposite with DD2. Have you tried WIWO?

I tried wi/wo tonight and it took 30mins before she fell asleep. I would assure her with reassuring words through her door. I had to walk in once to give her a little hug and then shush her outside of her door. Each time she called for me i would shush. Gee, it has never been this bad before!!!  I am afraid of what will happen when she gets another cold.

Hugs Sabs - that's good you only had to go back in once tho. Hopefully tonight will go better. L goes 'mental' if I try WIWO with her now, although it used to work quite well.

Wow, 30 mins is great! Try again tomorrow night. I had 1.5 hours of screaming WIWO with DD2 recently. But I know 30 mins can seem like forever. Try again tonight, I bet it will be less than 10!

Well she didn't peep tonight. I told her not to cry b/c she is a big girl and she repeated "I no cry." She fussed for a few seconds. Fingers crossed.

Sabs are your nights still ok?  We are having awful BT's atm, well not awful but he's taking ages to settle & is then waking early.  I tried cutting the nap to 1.5hrs but I think I am underestimating how long this boy can stay awake as I rarely see him yawn/rub eyes.  I pushed him too hard & he got all OT so he's had a week of 2hr naps but the nights are short again.  So we're back to capping, but I've a feeling the nap needs a drastic cut, possibly to nearer 1hr in order to have him sleeping a consistently longer night.  So I think I may be biting the bullet with this tomorrow.  Do you think this needing assistance may be b/c she's not tired enough?

I wish I knew!! ::)
I gave her a 1.5hour nap and she went down fine tonight. Could be b/c we were outside for 2hours! I don't let her nap 2hours anymore(unless she is ill) b/c she needs at least 5hrs and 40min of A until bed.
