Hi i really hope someone can help me. im at my wits end and have regularly had meltdowns this past few weeks. My ds has just turned 1. He has always been a brilliant sleeper. sleeping through from 8weeks. He has been a bit unsettled since his teeth came around 7months, but nothing compared to now. I think it has all stemmed from him having a viral infection over 6weeks ago. and a bout of croup. Being ill all he wanted was cuddles and being as he was ill i gave in. Then 2weeks ago we went away visiting relatives for a week and he slept in a travel cot next to us. Now since we have got home he is crying when i put hom down to sleep. He is still breast fed and usually falls asleep on last feed on me.  if he stays asleep wen put down its only for up to an hour then he will start screaming. He gets annoyed with me patting him. so i have just been sitting next to his cot.. while he is like a noddingdog as he is so tired. As soon as i think hes asleep i creep out and he wakes.. then it all starts agon.. this can go on for up to  3 hours. then he will wake in the night and it will take me a few more hours to settle him. I dont know what to do. i dont know how to do pupd would this help? Thank you for reading and i can give any other info u need to help me. k8 xxx

I'm not the right person to help you here, but someone will - and I just wanted to let you know I am in the same boat and I know how hard it is. They get off track so easily - but know that if he has done it before, he will again.
Apparently at this age walk in / walk out is better, esp for those who were sleeping before.

All the best - keep us posted xx

At this age he may well still be cutting some new teeth. There might also be a hidden ear infection with no other symptoms - some people notice it more when they're lying down, and both mine (and myself!) have turned out to have ears full of fluid with no other symptoms that I knew about but felt lots better with treatment. Is there something new in his diet that might be giving him a tummy-ache in the night? Dairy and gluten are often culprits here and can even cause some reflux-like symptoms in some people, which would be a bigger problem when he's laying down. Has he been on antibiotics recently? That can cause some major tummy trouble until the gut flora is restored; probiotics are your best bet there.

I would try some pain meds before bedtime and see if that makes any difference. If he sleeps better with meds, you know that pain is likely the culprit ad you can investigate teeth or get his ears looked at, or check the diet and see what's new in there. But I don't know that I'd do much in the way of sleep training till I've ruled out a physical cause that might be causing pain.
