when to have last nap before bedtime
« on: April 20, 2012, 22:37:30 pm »
My LO is about 4.5 mths and wakes between 7/730 so his bedtime would be around on average.  I have posted today's schedule below.  He woke up at 4 for his last nap and I dont think he would last until 6.30/7 for his BT so I put him down for a nap. If I kept him up I may have an OT baby come 630/7. His naps before BT are about 45 mins long.

My questions...

1) Is 6.10 too late for a nap based on the schedule?

2) should I wake him up after 30 mins and aim for a 730 or just let him sleep and then push his BT later.

Today's schedule

720 wake, feed
930 nap
10 wake
1030 eat
1145 nap
1.15wake
1.35 eat
3.15 nap
4 wake
5 eat
6.10 nap

You will find the day gets a little longer with Atimes increasing and your LO still needing the CN for a few more months. I wold dap that CN at 30 mins and go for BT about 1-1.5 hrs later...

Your first A time .. Do you always get a 30 min nap from it? A tweak in A times may help ... How long has your LO had that first A?

Your day looks identical to ours - LO is 5 months. Naps are hit and miss.

At the moment we put her down for a catnap if I think she can't make it to BT and then make BT a bit later if we need to. I think the answer depends on your LO too - how does he cope with being OT - on the days when B has ended up with a long A time before bed it doesn't seem to bother her.

I was going to ask the same as Sara - on your routine below your 1st A time might be a bit long....

This was a bit of an atypical day.  We were at a friends house during the first A and then LO fell asleep in her arms.

After his CN @ 6.10' he stirred and I went in at 7.  His eyes were open and I was able to keep him up till 8.10 as he started to sow tiredness again so i fed him and BT was 830. When he is OT, he rubs eyes, scratches his face/grasp ears and cries.

He had a decent night.

610 CN
7 wake
810 feed
830 BT
1050 DF
1.35 stirred, gas, SH/pat for 3 mins and back to sleep
5 eat
730 WU

I will take the advice of a30min CN next time. Thx
