Croup and not drinking milk
« on: April 21, 2012, 05:44:41 am »
Just a quick one guys- my DS is 12 months old on 3 solid meals a day- drinking plenty if water but off his morning and bedtime bottles. We are on day 4 of croup and is full of cold, he used to drink 16oz a day across 2 bottles but now just not interested. He is also being fussy about his food ATM.

If he is unwell that is probably why, I would keep offering fluids to try and keep him hydrated but really wouldn't worry too much about milk intake until he is well again. Once they are 1 they don't need liquid milk like they used to do so you can also offer more dairy in foods.

I actually remember one of my Drs telling me to not give milk when DS had a really mucousy cough/ chest infection when he was about 1, he said milk makes them produce more mucous which wouldn't help - not sure if that's right or not mind!

As long as he's drinking plenty of water and having a little food then I really wouldn't worry, his appetite will pick up when he's feeling better and he will no doubt make up for all those lost meals.  Just try keeping him comfortable and hydrated and let it run its course - big hugs - croup is rubbish, my little man was rushed to a&e with it not long ago, even now he still sounds chesty and that was weeks ago1

Thank you ladies, he is drinking loads of water and fromage frais well so trying to keep up with some dairy. I just needed some reassurance, he seems to be feeling brighter today so fingers crossed- I will just keep offering.

Again thank you x

Hope he's back to normal soon. Glad he seems brighter today.
