7 month old only sleeping 30mins in the am
« on: April 24, 2012, 23:05:58 pm »
Hi,

DD2 (7 months) has been a cruisy baby, sleeping well day and night with minor hiccups along the way.

Last week I started back at work and she is in daycare 2. days a week. She didn't sleep well there (first day had a 20min am nap and a 40min pm sleep) and since then things have been going downhill. She had been doing 3hour A before her first nap and sleeping 1.5 hours. For the last 5 days we have had either 30min or 45min am naps. I figure she is OT but if I put her down earlier she won't sleep. She will do a 2 hour nap in the pm but it is throwing the whole day out as I don't think she should be doing 4hour A before bed. She is on 2 naps, although I have had to give her a cn on daycare days due to the very short naps.

What should I do? I can't extend her sleeps as I have a 3 year old and daycare won't extend her naps as they have a bunch of other children to attend to. She is miserable most of the time and cries a lot of the time she is awake.

Luckily she is still sleeping well at night- I am putting her down at 6.30 and she sleeps through til 6.30am.

Hugs hun... no experience with daycare myself, but it is very common for LO's to have trouble adjusting to napping in a different place (without mom around).

What is the room like that she naps in at daycare?  Dark, white noise, other kids?

As for the 4 hrs of A time at the end of the day, this could be fine for her age actually after a 2 hr nap...

Looking at the above, she is sleeping 12 hrs at night and about 2 hrs 30-45 in the day.. total is 14-15 hrs. Totally acceptable for her age.

The day time crankiness is likely just her struggling with the long A times in the day... she is catching up at night so it might be worth just leaving her be to see if she can adjust over the next week or so... if not, we look at options!

Thanks for replying

The room at daycare has other kids! And one who screams which wakes her up. It is dark (she has a light room at home) so a lot of things are different.

She was there today, 2 short naps and awake since 2.30. I can't sneak a cn in so hopefully she will cope with 4hrs A before bed as there isn't much else I can do.

The room having other kids is pretty standard but one who screams is not okay!  Have you talked to the daycare about the loud kid?
