Need to ditch the swaddle but.....
« on: April 25, 2012, 21:35:41 pm »
She scratches her head and face - she still has some cradle cap mixed in with eczema. I'm sure that's why we failed when we tried to wean a few weeks ago.

But she's so mobile in her cot now - even swaddle she can move around, turn 90degrees, get her legs stuck in the bars (in the swaddle) - so I can't keep blankets on her and of course she can wriggle down as well as up. I'm hopeless at judging temps at night so never know what to put in her accounting for the swaddle??

I'd really rather she was in a sleepin bag. Any ideas?

H

I would just use a sleeping bag and pjs with a vest. Can you just socks on her hands? Or those pjs with the turn over cuffs? You can also get those padded pjs that are really warm.

Ali the problem is that the urge to itch makes her throw her hands in her face more than usual and wakes her up -she had mittens on so wasnt able to actually scratch. I kind of need a sleeping bag that pins her arms down by her side without it actually being a swaddle - maybe I'll have to get my Mum and her sewing machine on the case.

Halo sleep sack?

Do you want me to move this to product recommendations? You'll probably get more responses there.

Yeah maybe Ali - I've seem those, but tbh I can do the same (and have done recently) by putting our swaddle over our sleeping bags but leaving the leg part loose - I was worried about her over heating like that though....

Maybe you could just put her in a vest and no pjs if you go that route.

Part of the problem is we're getting in between feed NWs and I hover over her thinking "is she hot, is she cold" - at least with the grobags, I can check the temp in the room and follow the guidelines!! I'm so hopeless at figuring it out - we had our heating on 24/7 over the winter (on a low setting) but I've recently turned back into summer mode, so she could be colder at night than she's used to. Putting the swaddle over the sleeping bag also makes it easier for her to bust out

I was looking last night - do you think it would be safe to put the sleeping bag over the swaddle - he head is definitely big enough to stop her slipping down into the sleeping  bag and I guess theres' not more risk of that than her slipping under the blankets as long as she's foot to bottom of hte cot - which is how she starts out...

Hmm personally I wouldn't be happy to swaddle under a sleeping bag because I imagine it would be easier for the front of the sleeping bag to come up over her mouth and nose even if her whole head couldn't go down inside. I would rather use a blanket tucked under the foot of the mattress and under her armpits. Maybe your mum could sew some flaps on the sleeping bag like you were mentioning above.
