Feeding on Demand
« on: April 26, 2012, 06:52:45 am »
Hi there,

I have a two week old baby and when we got him home first he was on a three/four hour schedule for the past few days his father has been offering him food whenever he looks like he might be remotely hungry - maybe not always hungry. This is bringing the time between feeds to almost two hours. Please can you adivse what i should do?

Is it wrong to make your baby wait a little bit for a feed?
Love my boys very much xxx

With babies that are very small (congrats by the way ;)) they really need to be fed on demand. Formula fed babies can generally go 3 hours between feeds (4 hours is a bit too long really at this age) but that's not always the case, if it's sooner than 2 hours though you could be mixing up signals. Tiny babies do need more sucking time so if you are happy for him to have a dummy/ paci you can try settling with that first before you feed if it's not long since the last bottle.

How are his day time sleeps?

Is he draining his bottles?  How much are you offering in each one?
